go pro hero2 price?
« on: August 17, 2012, 12:24:04 PM »
COTD

go pro hero 2 surf edition,$299 delivered.

Good price?

How do you find using tbr GP H2 without a viewfinder?

Has anybody bought extra accessories for it? Ie motorsport/outdoor attachment, or should I look ffr the MS/Outdoor kit?

Cheers,
Cruisindub

I saw that but decided to see what else comes out. Hopefully cheaper.

I have a GoPro2 Motorsport Kit.  I bought it for $399, with a 16gig Class 10 SD Card.  That was the best deal I can find at the time.

According to some forums, it's best to go with the Motorsport kit as it comes with the most expensive accessories - the Suction Cup.  Then you buy the other attachments that come in different packs afterwards.

I also bought the LCD backpac which I find very handy.  The last thing you want to do is to think you're successfully filming a once off event to find out you were actually recording your bonnet.  The LCD does consume a lot more batteries, so usually I use it to line up the shot then take it off and connect the battery backpac.

I see that in the states they also have the Wi-Fi Bacpac available for sale now too.  That thing looks awesome and would be mighty handy.

As far as COTD goes, I avoid that site like the plague.

Hi,

I got the original one for my birthday one year.  It also came with a pack of accessories (motorsport???) that had lots of bits and pieces and a suction cap.

I'm happy with it's performance, but wouldn't trust that suction cap OUTSIDE the vehicle.

Why if hear you ask?  Because I don't want to lose the camera and have to backtrack through mud and slush in my thongs to find car # 2 ran the bloody thing over and now it's all muddy and flat.  Has that happened to me?  Not on your life ... but I have heard of others losing them from windows etc so I'm not going to risk it.  I wouldn't trust the double sided tape on any of the accessories either for this very reason.  Plan to have a plan B up your sleeve as well as something to ensure the camera won't hit the deck anytime soon.  In saying that, they are very hardly, durable little machines (falling from 3000 feet and still filming the search means they can't be all that bad)

How does it go not having something to look through?  Excellent.  If you have a camera and are used to looking through the view finder, then this little camera should be fairly easy to point in the right direction and use.

As it uses a "fish eye" lens, almost everything gets in the view as long as it's pointed the right way.

Thanks for the heads up regarding the accessories, it (was ) the surf edition and the suction cup attachment would be good, though as we do a fair bit of boating the floating back case would have been handy.

Bugger, they are sold out now anyway.

Just wondering why the COTD has turned you off? Anything we should be wary of?
Ive never bought anything through there before either, but occationally have a look. Seems everything that I interested in is already sold out by time I get around to it.
I read lots of swaggers buying stuff from there.

McGirr, you think something else would be cheaper? What else is the equivalent, besides the in car camera that BHG recently posted about, not seen anything else like it.

Happy to have lots more info and advice.

Cheers

I have the GP H2 with all the accessories, including the LCD backpack and a second battery. I purchased them through HD Sports Australia and I dealt with the crew up in Maleny. They really looked after me and got me all the gear I wanted. (though now I'm wanting a few more things! always the way!)

Love my little camera! Haven't had any trouble with the mount, I think its more than strong enough and if you have prepped the surface properly then you won't have a problem with it letting go. Considering I had it on the camera as we went over corrugations, down Gunshot and along the highway, I'm impressed with how good the mount is. I've even had it on the side of the fire truck and its hung on there pretty well through the bush too!

If you get one, make sure you do get the humidity pack as you'll need to stop it from fogging up and I found that these worked a treat up in the tropics and on frosty mornings!

The reason I do not like Catch Of The Day (COTD) is that they are a one hit wonder.

They will buy up bulk stock of items from desperate wholesalers and flick it off into the market.

Usually their prices are OK (not sensational) and you can usually find a deal that is close to it, or similar with a bit of looking.

I would much rather buy from an online store, with a retail outlet and know that if I have any difficulties they know what they sold, and they likely know how to use it.

Without these stores, I would never even know that I wanted a GoPro Hero 2.  Catch of the Day would not be able to sell anything without brand recognition, which is what they rely on.

All valid points jeb however this is the future of retailing, it is almost leaning towards dumping which is illegal I believe. On the flips side, how much value do you put on customer service? The GoPro deal wasn't a ripper deal but we have bought Led Lenser toches, kids stuff, kitchen stuff all far cheaper than the cheapest online stores around. We didn't need any customer service for those items, I didn't have to leave the house and it turned up in a few days. I wouldn't like to be in the retail channel at the moment with all the grey imports happening but this is the free market we desire.

As far as the GoPro goes, I have had it attached to my windscreen using the double sides tape attachment and it survived at 100kmph+ speeds without a concern.

The attachment is so good, that I ended up leaving it on the car when I sold it because it was so hard to get off!

I have since learnt that there is a backup strap attachment that you can get, which I will be ordering soon.  This will let my heart rest easier.  Your camera connects to this one with a strap, so if the primary attachment gives way, it will hang off of that one saving your camera.

Don't assume it is the Aussie importer of GoPro supplying these units. I had the Aussie importer of Led Lenser check the torches I purchased from COTD and they were grey imported from the EU by COTD.

From a warranty persepective I am prepared to take the gamble on items such as torches, kids toys, cutlery etc. As I said there is no valid reason for customer service or warranty with these items.

Most of your comparison to the US I will agree with however re the streets being well policed no chance. There are cops everywhere in the US compared to here.

We can stick our heads in the sand and hope it won't happen but it is happening and life as we know it is changing. You have 2 billion people in China and India who want our way of life and wages. That is a scary thought for the future...

Cheap is good, cheapest is not always best.
I would suggest reading a few forums before purchasing,
MHO I would only be buying from an authorized reseller.
You can buy a HD hero 2 motorsport  for $349.00 with 8GB card
and free shipping.
