Mattress Protection

Hi Everyone , only about two weeks till we till get our new Eagle so I am starting to get bits and pieces ready to go in the camper. I noticed in another thread that most people use a mattress protector but what type? Just a normal one that you would use at home? Or will it need to be a bit more waterproof? If I have to pack up in the rain will the mattresses get wet from the bed-ends folding in  Thanks for your help.

A mattress protector is for protecting the matress from you sweating - it should go under the bedding.  Buy a silver tarp that fits over it neatly and you'll be set.  That's what we do and we haven't had a wet bed yet.  We did try buying some fancy smancy 'mattress protectors' for over the bed and bedding, but the first one was thinner than a shower curtain and lasted about 1 week but only cost $20.  The second one was worth $60 and I was as dubious about it as the first one and it had even less success. 

Stick with Ye Ole Tarp!!

Agreed! Go the silver tarp it works a treat on our soft floor, cheaper and tougher than mattress protectors and keeps the bedding dry and dirt free.
Can also use it around the campsite if needed, such as a shade over the camper box and fridge.

We use a picnic rug.  The pattern on one side means you don't accidentally put the dirty side on the bedding. The plastic on the other side means dampness and muck wipes off easily.  And very cheap at Aldi or Kmart/BigW.

Congrats on the Eagle Trent. I keep the innersprings in my Hawk covered with the plastic they were wrapped in from the factory. I just pop it on after I make the bed. It takes about 1.5mins with one person working inside and one working outside. The is plenty left over to tuck in tightly, which also squashes the bedding down making closing up the camper a little easier.

Without this we would have gotten wet every time we packed up since it was raining, or the canvas was wet! I saw some canvas bed covers on Infrintcanvas canvas website, but they were pretty expensive ($200+ from memory) and would have been a but like sleeping in a sway in your campervan... Interesting idea though.

We bought two of these for our swan, they are waterproof, terry top, fitted mattress protectors. Our little girl wears undies to bed (she's only 3) and although she never wets the bed I didn't want to jinx it by not putting protectors on. Luckily enough she never has had an accident but it's good to know our mattresses are protected no matter what. We always pack up with our bed end flies still up and it's rained nearly every time we have been camping, our canvas stays dry underneath and we have never had water on the beds or the canvas. We have to air our the bed flies and awnings when we get home, but the actual camper canvas stays pretty much completely dry when your covered all around with awnings and bed flies.
