to me, it doesn't sound like the item that was paid for has arrived yet.

how was it paid for? lodge a dispute with your credit card company or, if paypal, lodge a dispute there.

thinking creatively, you haven't purchased that item, maybe it was just for free.  >:D
I lodged a dispute with my credit card company back in February about a transaction made 2 weeks prior I just received a letter from them after many phone calls stating that I will now have to fill in all these forms as the time of the transaction to the time the dispute was made was too long in which it makes it difficult for them to investigate the dispute, estimated time to investigate is 12 + weeks ????

The problem with that is the vast majority don't go into raptures online when the transaction is an agreeable one and the field is left to the disgruntled consumer. That's where ebay and Paypal have the problem licked, as well as the trusted bricks and mortars with an online presence. They do employ ordinary folks like us however and some days we all get out the wrong side of the bed.

...and you will also find that on lots of sites, like this one for instance, people will ask "has anyone dealt with soandso, what were they like"  and you will get back reports, good or bad, that you can use as a guide.

The problem with ebay feedback is you only get 90 odd days to leave it. not much time to really test out most things and know if they are long lasting.. specially if its a high ticket item.

You can run a search on a web site you are looking at through such sites as http://www.domaintools.com/  It gives you an idea of when the site was registered, who it belongs to etc. Good for all those dodgy sites proporting to be legit

A seller can add whatever terms and condition he or she likes to an item for sale, however, if they break Australian consumer laws, they aren't worth the paper they are written on.

Bag inspections as a condition of entry into stores is a good example, there is nothing in consumer law that requires you to present your bag for inspection upon leaving a store, but nearly every grocery store has a sign at the entrance and checkout stating this condition.

The worst that they can do is refuse you entry if you wont offer your bag for inspection, which unless you have a track record, they don't or wont do, because they know you would have legal recourse if their action is not warranted.
