what is a dream pot

i have been sniffing about the cooking stuff and a few have made ref to cooking in a "dream pot" ...please enlighten me into this little dreamy product.

my missus uses a dream pot when we are travelling, but it doesn't get much use at home

If you do a search through myswag the topic has come up a few times before. Might be of help.

We have one but i find it only good for stews and curry's. The recipe book "says" you can cook all sorts of things but from previous experience, if its normally dry cooked in an oven such as cakes or bread - the dreampot is not the man for the job. I believe you can cook steamed pudding etc and the like as the moisture content is suposed to be there but dampers and breads are not it's forte`.

As has been said previously - it is good for stews and curries, but I have also used it for making yogurt. But it is not as good as using the dehydrator to maintain temperatures. (No I don't dehydrate yogurt, my dehydrator can fit a pot inside it when I take out the trays)

Yeah yeah, it could be you guys assuming I am talking about something else......I am sweet and innocent, according to me.  I look in the mirror and see an angel, my wife keeps telling me that the wing tips are actually horns.... >:D

We bought a cheaper version off eBay & have had no dramas with it. One third of the price & works great.

I have been using mine for several years now, and no im not an grey nomad,  I use it when we are on the road and at home. Love it. Use it for roasts, stews, spag bog and the occasional date loaf or fruit cake to. Still experimenting, but love being able to set up camp after being on the road all day and knowing that dinner is cooked and ready for me to serve the hungry mob.

I have not tried my famous lemonade scones yet in the dream pot, but I dont think you can beat the camp oven for this. As with most cooking different meals suit different pots, :)

At home use it when we have parties or bbq's to keep food warm or to cook potato bake in.

Personally I love it and could be a sales person for it... but thats only one persons opinion

just checked out this on u-tube ..... i think i would have to see one IRL to decide how i feel ...but they seem practical esp after you have been driving all day and a meal is done ....but then again nothing like baked beans on toast to start the meals on the first night

We got one back when we used to ski/snowboard and it meant that I could start soup or stew cooking in the morning, then have a hot lunch on the mountain without spending 11ty billion dollars on ****e hamburgers and chips.

now we use it when camping, if i am reheating a frozen meal (I freeze a stack before we go away) then I pop it in in the morning with hot water in the bottom pan and them meal is normally about hot enough to eat when we arrive (just cook pasta or rice or whatever) or for stews, soup, curry etc. it is absolutely excellent. Anything you can cook in a slow cooker you can do in a dreampot. I tried cake, found I had to reduce the mix to be quite dry or it wouldn't cook right as the heat source is steam - so as someone said above, not suitable for everything, but really good for anything you would do in a slow cooker - roast chicken is brilliant in it too :D

and no, I'm not a grey nomad. I am pretty grey, but still go 30 years before I get to do my lap :D

We use ours for the first night meal. Cook it up at lunch before we leave then when we get there and set up tea is ready. We also cook the one for the chocoholics cake in it. Biol for 15 min let it sit 1 hour. We start it before cooking anything else for the meal so it is ready when we want it. And once the cake is served we still have hot water to wash up with.

Wife purchased one (Thermos brand) at the caravan show last year. I thought she had been taken for a great ride, but went along with it with the 'happy wife, happy life' saying.

I very quickly changed my mind when she tried experimenting with it at home. As others have said, great for anything a slow cooker can produce. I particularly like the way it will cook the rice (great quality) along with a fantastic curry so you can have your meal asap when arriving late. We heat the meal after breakfast, throw it in the back of the 4x4, and it is still warm enough to eat at night. It also produces one of the best fruit cakes I have eaten.

We certainly don't use it for every meal but we wouldn't be without it now.
