Personally I think we are over covered for "family friendly" this and "family friendly" that in this country, ya gotta be carefull of what ya say or type because its "family friendly"  bulls&*#

I don't stay at big4's when I camp by myself because I know there's going to be a hord of over excited screaming leprechauns that there parents think everybody love and want to hear screaming. I think there should be a lot more kid free places including restaurants, airline services. I have a lack of tolerance of other parent's little friends in the same sense I have a lack of tolerance for the neighbours dog that craps on my grass and not clean it up, I shouldn't have to deal with it!!!

ahhhh fellin much better now  :D

Don't really care weather people think it's discrimination or not I think in our country, caravan and camping is a national institution enjoyed by families if people don't like families go and stay in 5 star resorts that normal families can't afford!!!
See your words ^^^ ? Why should they ??
I think pretty much everyone agrees that kids should be outside playing, you wont get any argument against that from me.
However, just because kids should be outdoors, doesn't mean everyone wants to camp with them.
I travel and camp with my kids, and kids runnin about generally don't bother me, But I completely understand that some people would rather not camp near kids. When im not travelling with kids, given a choice, I'd choose a kid free place as well.
Expecting that every caravan park caters to you and your kids is a "screw everyone else" attitude.
As for slanging match, read that red bit^^ up there again, If your going to chuck about opinions like that, expect that some people will disagree and tell you so !

We stayed there when we did our Kimberley trip, but we knew it was no kids before we left home because we checked.

The joint was so full when we stayed there that we had to take a cabin, because the sites were all booked out. So, I guess they're doing something right?

I'm using one of their stubbie holders right now, having a beer as I type, I loved the joint!  ;D

The "Dumbest" is your attitude that only families (or those that want to camp near other peoples kids) should be using caravan parks.
It smacks of the whole "as long as MY interests are being looked after, screw the rest of you" attitude that is sadly so prevalent today.
The fact is lots of people, from all walks of life, enjoy caravanning and camping, and not all of them want to camp with kids. The park is catering to that part of the market, in the same way that some cater for those that travel with pets, and some target the kid market with the bouncy cushions and kiddie pools etc.
Quite simply, if you don't like their business model, you don't have to do business with them, its that easy.

My theory on families is couples of any gender, parents with kids, grand parents with grand kids whatever I have not said exclusive to a family of wife husband and 2.3 kids, I felt it was poor form but that is only an opinion.
Steve the form of saying dumbest attitude and making the statement that I think screw everybody else is your thoughts.(not mine)
Some of the older generation also think kids should be outside playing enjoying the great outdoors?
And yes we did move on and find another place that was enjoyable, the whole idea of these forums is to pass on trip experiences, not a personal slanging match as some would like ?

That's great mate, glad you found somewhere to stay, and enjoyed your trip. It would be silly to let something like that get you down. Thanks for sharing, when I get over to derby, I know what park I will stay at.

Ps   Do you have wikicamps?  If not get it and use it in your travels, infact if you look up your van park in question you would of saved yourself from going there to start with.

This park was the first one we went to at Derby but unfortunately it was booked out

During out recent trip across the top of WA we were woken up at 5.30 on more than one occassion by either kids  or people packing up and I know which I prefer.

I have heard of other child free caravan parks which were also booked out.

Not that hard to book out when only park that has a pool and only 20 sites?
Noise at 5:30 in morning wether kids or people packing is still noise if parents letting their kids make that noise is disrespectful, people packing is unavoidable and kids or no kids is exactly the same

Not sure which part you think is "dumbest" the fact is that caravan and camping is a family institution in Australia.

Steve.j if that's what you are prepared to say and think of people's it's as good a reason for us not to bother using or contributing to my swag

But seriously, it maybe an institution but lots of us have no interest in having others around while we are out on the track enjoying our institution. Yea it's fun to meet up with groups as you travel but the institution you talk about is quite different for every different family.

Personally I go to places that no one else can - so remote, which means no one else close by so even though I have kids mine love the being out there, shooting feral cats and fishing for dinner, not yelling and screaming around a pool so having a few places that stop that is great. You could have gone to the King Sound Resort, they have a great pool.

No mate it is an institution full stop not a family institution as you say so what cause me and the missus have no kids we are not allowed to go camping
At the end of the day they have designed a business to cater to a particular market the same as any business does and the fact it has been around for a while means there is a demand for it
So basically have a coke and a smile and get over it

X 2 from me.
