Hi guys. Bought and istalled a GME AE4705. it's a beautiful Ariel only thing is trying to park it in the garage and the bigger is too long or silly me didn't consider the roller door when it bought it. It is a removable antenna so the whip just un screws from the sprung base. I could always install it to the base and the far left side of the bull bar which would make the passenger happy or just remove it and only use it when we are on a trip.  Your thoughts?
Out before sunrise, home after sunset. Won't change it for anything.

GUEY

Remove it and put a small 300mm long antenna on. Swap out when touring.
Or get a folding mount.

Thanks guys. Fell Like a right drongo.
On another matter trying to install the clip for the uhf mic but not wanting to screw in to the dash. Tried double sided sticky tape USELESS! Any thoughts. I wash think plastic welding but it is really tough. Silicon?

Sir Kev + Darkie

If you have a dash mat, zip tie the mic clip to that  :cup:

Get some double sided automotive tape (3M or Bear brands are ok) that's how I stuck mine on and it's been holding on for a couple of years now and has survived some pretty corrugated roads and vibrations.

Thanks hogie.
Guey what type of ariel is that and does it suit the plug on the base as mine has a similar end to the uhf radio console.

To be honest I can't remember brand. I picked it up at ARB, around $30?. Any 4by shop or the like should sell them.
Mine is a gme base also. This is a gme branded one, but I'm sure you can get generic.

I haven't attached mine yet. When it's plugged in, I usually just sit it at the base of the gear stick. It sat there for ten days at Fraser without a  problem. If it does end up giving me grief, thinking about putting one of those belt clips like on the back of a tape measure on it. Then slip it on the console at the base of the gear sick

I have the same aerial and I just remove the aerial and fit the cap that came with it when it's not in use.
Have been meaning to buy a shorter one but just haven't got around to it yet.

Depending on how much too long it is, you could remove the spring if that would make some difference..

I have never used a spring on mine ( 3 different 4wd's )....don't like the way they dance around with one !

If it's the same as this one you could buy the small aerial mast, ours came with this little one and I bought the 1.2m mast at a later date !  It's perfect for around town, we then change to the longer one on trips !  :cup:

Silicon the clip on, buy yourself a stubby antenna. I get over 6 ks with a 300mm one

Have you done it before? I thought the same thing but was quite sure what it'd do running a a hacksaw blade through it, how did you seal the end of the cable internally.

What Db would that be mate ???

I wouldn't mind going down to a 300mm approx aerial, but can't find any 6.5Db ones ( all seem to be approx 3Db )
