hi - we are looking to go to Bribie and stay at ocean beach.
when we want to go, there are limited camp sites available and we don't want to stay in the heavily populated sites with amenities.
we are self sufficient, don't have a CT - only a tent - BUT we will have a trailer.
so, does anyone know from first hand experience if we can DRIVE in the 'tent only' sites where there is one access road with 2 sites (one to the left and one right), and manoeuvre the trailer out of the way to unload and park the car? ie is there enough room to -
a - drive in and easily reverse the trailer to the side of the campsite out of the way, and
b - be able to park both the trailer and car without blocking any access?, and
c - how big are the sites that aren't suitable for CT's? we have a 6m gazebo which we use as our dining/living area - plus tent, I assume this will fit?
would appreciate any help - many thanks! Mike
Just wanted to answer my own thread for the benefit of others. I searched the entire inter web and found next to nothing about the camp sites at ocean beach at bribie that helped me work out trailer access.
So, we stayed at camp 20, access J. Very easy to pull a trailer in behind the dune, turn around and reverse into camp. There was a small tree in the middle, with drive access either side, and ability to setup a large camp behind. Camp site is very adequate - we had the trailer, tent, shower duo tent, and 6m gazebo all set up with plenty of room to spare.
You could setup your CT quite easily.
19 and 21 also had lots of space. I can only assume they say no CT at these sites cos you have to reverse into camp in soft sand, and do a bit of manoeuvring - and they may think some numpty will get stuck or something.
All up, it was a top week with awesome weather. But the mozzies nearly made us turn around and leave. They are ferocious! Swarmed us as soon as we landed, and never let up. Super strength mozzie spray is the only relief, but still couldn't stop them unless you bathed in it. Disappointing.
Kids got smashed by them. Don't know why the nat parks don't fog spray the bush to keep them down, as they are currently in plague proportion.
