Info on Sunshine Coast
« on: December 24, 2013, 03:16:23 PM »
Hi,
My wife and i are had it with living in Townsville and are seriously considering a move to the Sunshine Coast, we are going to give ourselves 6 months to make a call on whetehr we will make the move, i'm all for it but my wife being a Townsville born and bred girl is a little harder to convince although this is her idea.   does any of you live there, wanna share with me what its like?
We are interested in more rural type living, area's like glenview interest us, whats the schooling like private/public, our kids are not in school yet but one will be in 2015, we have been to the sunny coast quite a bit so know a little bit about the place, we are more chasing info on what areas to look at to buy a house considering our wishes for more rural/acreage properties.

My work doesnt matter as i am a fifo worker in construction, and my wife a stay at home mum.

Cheers,
Kieran

Hey Kieran,

I live in Noosa presently but grew up in Caloundra and lived in Alex for ten years and was a property valuer and am now a commercial real estate so know abit about the market through the rural res areas.

If your considering rural res just be aware that that market can be quite slow and oversupplied so its not liquid if you decide you want out quickly.

Most of the ribbon of rural res areas stretching from Landsborough up to Cooroy have got alot more interest because of their proximity to the highway and infill development of residential estates, which has increased facilities such as child care / schools /shops etc.

Personally I would be looking at the rural areas around diddillibah / bli bli etc as they are east of the highway and have good access to the airport and Maroochydore CBD, so more valuable.

If you want views and are considering any of the range areas, Mount Mellum, Maleny, Montville etc just be aware that they are still along way from major facilities and driving can become a bit of a chore, especially if your going to be doing school runs and kids sport in the next few years.

Schooling on the Sunshine Coast has got alot better over the last ten years with some very good private and public schools.

I would have a look at the rental market in the above areas and try before you buy so to speak.

Anything else you need info on just holla.

Cheers Nomad.

Gday,
We have moved up from Albury in Sept 2012 to Palmwoods near Nambour and have been sooooooooo much happier. The Sunshine Coast is the best as we are so close to Maroochydore, Caloundra, Noosa etc. The people are friendly, shop service is great and the area in Palmwoods is very quiet and rural. Can highly recommend the move and we were in Townsville before the move to Albury/Wodonga. We loved Townsville but found the homes a bit exy at the time. We got 2 acres and live right on the National Park border. Very different to Albury let me tell you. All I can say is if you want a change from Sunny Townsville then you could do a hell of a lot worse than the Sunny Coast region. All in all, the best move of my life.
Cheers.

Thanks Guys,
Appreciate the feedback, We will definately be making the move, we have had yet more fallings out with both our families, Townsville no longer holds anything for us, we are giving ourselves 12 months to make the move, so we will be putting our house on the market in a few months.  we are not keen on renting at all and would rather purchase a property etc.  will definitely be buying a rural type property anywhere from  glenview up to the Woombye areas.

Looking forward to a fresh start

A few road trips down while on my breaks over the next few months i suspect.

Cheers,
Kieran

Yep, the Sunshine Coast is awesome, although i live a little further south, i frequently travel up to the Sunshine for weekends away and hope to move up there permanently sometime in the not so distant future. The lifestyle there is quite layed back and there are plenty of places to visit. I'm sure you would'nt be disappointed with your seachange.
