I realise Lube Mobile is getting a roasting here, but I did use our local guy a couple of times and found him to be the best mechanic I've had.

I heard a lovely grinding sound when descending into a steep valley one day.
It was followed by the sound of boss lady telling me "Oh yeah, the brakes have been squealing loudly for a while now, but it went away...."

Now I know to try and edumacate a teacher (academic with no common sense) about brake wear indicators would be as easy as milking a bull, so I copped it, used the gearbox to get home with minimum braking (and if anyone knows Bells Line of road - they would know how easy that would be) then in desperation I rang Lube mobile on a Sunday night.
Not a problem Mr mechanic will be there in the morning.
He turned up on time, inspected, went away with rotors that had already been machined then rang to say it was too fine and they needed replacing.
I realise this would be the case and gave the go ahead.
He returned with new ones, fitted them serviced car as per my request and cleaned up and made sure I was happy.
Now this "kid" mechanic and I say kid because I'm sure he only just got off his P's was excellent. Polite, prompt courteous and respectful.
I have since given his number to many people who are now using him and reckon he's great.

Because I turned to the dark side  and bought a a a a a a a oh damn I can't even say it toyota not a Nissan, and it comes with dealer servicing I no longer use him, but I still reckon he's the best I know.

Its a shame you had a bad experience, but its no different to any other trade. You get good and you get bad. Doctors, dentists, nurses, pilots, politicians (no they're all bad) plumbers and accountants.

Move on and try to find a good one, and when you do hang on to him / her and let everyone know.
If they look after you, look after them.

Holy crap, $105 p/h, mechanics earn way to much

Local Holden dealer was $100/hour over 10 years ago, when their mechanics were getting maybe $15/hour.
