Anybody know about automatic gates?

Tending to use the side gates a lot more. They are metal swing gates like pool fencing but about 1.6m high each leaf about 1.7m wide. I would like to make them remote, but don't want to spend a squillion. Seen some kits on fleabay any advise appreciated.

I got an ebay one.

I have problems with the solar panel due to the fact I'm in the bush so I have had to put a transformer on it.

I have also had trouble with it freezing on heavly frosty nights.

It looks to be all stainless steel & easily set up. The controller is set up for 2 motors but I only had a single swing gate.

I have no idea who or where I got it from on evilbay, but I bought one that was powered by a 12 volt battery and charged of a small solar panel and it worked a treat.

It was for a friends place and we installed it no problems at all.
It was about 3 or 4 years ago now and I haven't heard any complaints.

He's still talking to me so it can't have gone south......

Mine has 2 12v batteries & runs on 24v but I fitted one for a bloke up the road & his had 2 12v batteries in parallel.

Just checked & mine is a Ahouse unit



The dew settles on the stainless tube & then freezes.

The one I fitted up the road looked like this. The arm is inside & doesn't change length so hopefully this one wont freeze.

I use these guys a bit, most gate openers use a low voltage supply with batt back -up. I simply order the motor with the batt back-up as the main circuit. then when delivered it has 2 wires to be connected to a battery.

Fit motor, connect to batt,then small solar panel to keep batt topped up .  No digging or hassle and centurion are pretty good gear.

I have the D2TURBO at my place it is dead easy to install and works a treat .

We're rural & I know a few people who have them. All different brands but they all have niggles with them. Nothing major, mind, & they still prefer them to getting out of the vehicle. One common problem around here seems to be ants in the gate sensor/switch box.

I've seen some somewhere, where the gates were set up on hydraulic rams using a permanent connection from the garden hose supply, they were still remote operated but relied on the water pressure to open close the gates, with the exhaust water after actuating being bled out onto the lawn............. thought it was pretty nifty.

Hi,
   you could drive one mains water pressure with a short length of non-percolating hose. It would straighten under pressure and be way cheaper than any cylinder and rod arrangement I would imagine.
Weight or hang the gate to auto close, bleeding the water out through a small hole or valve.
