G'day all,

I need to get a vehicle down to the Gold Coast from Cairns, it's for my daughter who's at Uni down there....... Can anyone suggest a car carrier co' that you know or have used with success...... Or any other means of getting the vehicle down there....

Just got 2 quotes online around $700 ish......

Don't have a real problem with the price, but would rather use someone who's tried and proven..... or someone's most trustworthy  ??? mate from here.....  ;D

Regards,

Barrabart.....

If your sure its a back load rate & its not loaded with a fork truck it could be a good deal . Check the insurance in transit & on the car as well in transit via your policy . Just a thought . Don't be tempted to throw a lot of stuff into the car as it is mot going to be a good thing long term . l spent many years with NQX in Melb . Enjoy

Thanks Speewa, from what i can gather the vehicle will be drive on drive off...... and i'll check the insurance coverage........ i haven't bought the car yet, so insurance will be sorted, prior to shipping off.

Yeah don't worry, that was the first plan, and still is rating as a strong option....

I'm assuming it will be a second hand car.
So driving it down will give you chance to see if there is anything wrong with it that the seller "forgot" to mention.

Here's another option for you. You could fly down to Brisbane and go to one of the car auctions. They always have a vast range of vehicles at great prices. You could then drive the car down to the Gold Coast (aprox 40 mins) and then fly back home from the Gold Coast Airport. What you should save on a purchase price would cover your expenses.

Try "Ceva" for an online quote.
A family member has used them & say the price was better than they offered on the phone???

Matto

If it's any consolation, I think it was about $1k to ship the motorcycle from BNE to CNS when we moved up. That said, it was via a specialist company who made sure it was properly strapped down, etc. With the car transport, I'm pretty sure that you can't have anythign at all in the cars when you transport them, not even anything in the boot.

I'd be a little wary about driving a brand new second-hand car that far without at least a few weeks to hunt around town in it. It could cost you way more than $600 is something major were to let go half way between TSV and MAC. Goodness, you may even end up having to stay in *gasp* Bowen - it's just not worth contemplating. Let me know if you do go that way - I can probably be talked into buying a new/second hand 4WD from Bris - you could drive the 121 down, and whatever I buy back up. NB - I'm cheap, so whatever I buy probably won't have cruise or AC.

I've always found second hand cars to be ridiculously priced up here (except, of course, when I try to sell them), and we've bought both our cars from Bris and saved buckets. Not to say great deals aren't available, I'm just surprised that it's not cheaper for you to fly down and buy her a car down there. There's a lot more people down there, and a lot more sellers, so you get a better range and more competition. Again, the obvious exception is if you're trying to buy a car that I'm selling - I can't seem to give them away.

Good luck,
Matto :)

No worries Matto, thanks for suggestions an offer of driving ur potential new rig back....... But it's all sorted as of about hmmm, two glasses of rum ago.... ;D
We now have a great little Mazda 121 sitting in the driveway, only had 2 owners in almost the last two decades, has plenty of service history and the lady i bought it off has owned it for the last 13 or so years and it has a grand total of 150,000 klms on the clock...... all for the grand sum $2500-

I've just taken it for a spin for the second time (prior to the rumbo's) i love it, shhhh don't tell anyone......

Shipping is sorted through Ceva....... i'll get the car in for a service / final check  Monday morning (though it's only just been serviced a couple of weeks ago), then drop it off to the car carrier agent in the arvo..........

Thanks all again for the info..........
