Wind generator for camping .

A couple of trips back, heading home along Teewah beach I noticed a camp set up with a small wind turbine [ like the small ones  sail boats have ].
Just wondering if any swaggers have got them and what they reckon off them .
As we camp on Fraser regularly and wind is usualy 10 to 20 knts most day and night, thought it might be a good way to keep  the batteries charged .

They are expensive and noisy but they do work.  Just MHO ...

Be no good up here at the moment, it would be blown away......... all the way to the cape with the wind we have.

One of my mates made one off internet instructions and it works a treat. The blades are made out of 90mm plastic downpipes, but it can get noisy when the wind gets up. On a couple of trips it's kept his batteries charged day and night.

Thats ok Jeepers, I'm sure the missus would be alright standing out there on the dune holding it.. She'd just need to keep her mouth shut, other wise the wind would be a problem then ... opens mouth, wind pops it open like a parachute and bingo I loose my new wind generator and constant power supply ...Bugger !!!.

Having spent many months on my parents catamaran over the years I wouldn't want one anywhere near camp, they are extremely noisy and drive me absolutely mad.

As suggested I would be looking at solar options, no noise and wont wake you or anyone up at 2am because the wind came up.

I agree, spend one night next to one of those things and you'll see why they are a bad idea.
