Discussing controversial matters on a public forum

Hi,
I'm a a relative newby around this forum, but participate in a kayak forum with a few members that are also here. It seems to me from my reading over a couple of months that this place is pretty good with self-moderation, much like our kayak joint. Obviously good mods are a key factor, but an effective senior membership tends to slap out the fools before they get too annoying. If you ever need to remind yourself about how tense a forum can get it's worthwhile visiting the popular mainstream fishing forum to get a perspective on how far (possible) slander can go, and proudly out in the open in fact. Or for the really brave, try one of the new-bub parenting forums. Woooweeee, that's an experience in fear. Makes this place look like sunday school.

RE the Electrical section. It's not just here, it's everywhere, even in Kayak land. And there's not too many things to wire-up in a yak right?

Maybe a good way to look at posting is, would you be happy to put your real name to it, and say it face to face? Doesn't stop criticism etc. but makes you think about how it is said and if it even needs to be.

DB, good call. An edited version of this thread (not necessarily including my posts) could almost be considered essential reading for first time members IMO

There's a drag racing forum where this is the case. Login/user name, is your name and race number. Pretty sure I even had to email a scan of my race licence to register.
