One armed camper ?
« on: January 12, 2012, 10:20:24 AM »
Well my search continues, but I don't know if what I'm looking for actually exists ??? What I really want is a camper that I can erect with one hand in the dark. Any clues, hints ?

Hi,

Check out http://cubcampers.com.au/

They come with a hand winch which makes opening and closing easy, Also there is a electric winch option.

Those automated set up ones are pretty good. Haven't seen them before and I thought I'd seen most.

It wouldn't be as easy but I think I could set up my Tvan using only one arm. Given you're in VIC you could drop by their factory and have them show it to you and give it a go yourself to see what you think.

Well, I am an one-armed camper and I can open & set-up the Kimberley easily with one arm under 2 minutes.
Only packing up I need someone else to help, mostly my wife. :-)

I am one armed and my camper is now to a stage I can set up the main tent on my own, the annex I need a hand from the better half.
I have packed it on my own though although it was not easy, but it is getting better, and I have a couple of things yet to try which might help me.

After you are finished with it ... does the better half ask for it back ?

My wife says the same: you need only my hand?

I think we need to have a section here: one-armed-campers. :-)

When ever my BF asks for a hand ... I applaud.  But on a more serious note, our Aussie Swag Camper Trailer could be done one handed ... and it's a fairly easy one person operation ... just takes a bit longer to pack up with one person.

I decided to try out the camper on my own yesterday as I needed to unpack it anyhow.
I found with a few simple mods, it is now quite easy to set the main tent and also pack up, it would have only took me a few more minutes than if the two of us was setting it up.
Setting up the annex might be a bit harder though, if using all the spreaders supplied, just using the poles it wasn’t to hard.

Mine is same, 1 person can do the tent single handed, but the annexe is no chance.. its just too heavy and high up :(

Modcon hard floors (http://modcon.com.au/campers/) would be pretty doable with one hand - winch for raising and lowering makes it look ok.
