Title: How did your car insurance renewal go recently?
Post by: prodigyrf on May 13, 2024, 12:45:57 PM
Must admit I ducked the loyalty tax hike this time around with the fourby and found even cheaper than I was paying with AAMI-

So much for the AAMI hoojah about my discount for being a platinum old fart or some such although no young punk under 30 is covered with Budgetdirect now or they're stealing it anyway.

Interestingly the stats put a $690 average extra hit on EV over ICE and some insurers are bailing out of EV cover altogether although to some extent that's 'computer on wheels' taxation as the article notes with costly repair prices.

My limited use (1000 km year) agreed value policy with Shannons with roadside assist ($60) included went from $621 to $840 over the past 2 years.

Now with Enthusiast Motor Insurance for $325 per annum, but no roadside assist yet.

so a weird one for us.

1) we no longer live in the big smoke - left the Blue Mountains and now reside in sunny Yarralin in the NT

2) we've been with NRMA since... *forever*. But after the way they ****ed us (without lube) on the garage flooding. I've been keen to move on anyway.

3) we recently bought a 2018, GXL 78 series Troopy. And living where we are, and planning an Oombulgurri trip in late July... we thought we'd talk to Club 4x4 for "remote cover".

The insurance is well priced.  (I think)

So I thought I'd get a quote on the 105 cruiser as well and it's about 1/2 what we've been paying NRMA...

I was expecting the worst given all the scare stories in the press but my car insurance increase wasn’t too bad. On the other hand, the house insurance renewal, buildings and contents, more than doubled. Definitely loyalty tax. I went elsewhere and got it for a third of the original renewal price.

The Land Rover stayed the same as it has been for as long as I can remember. Classic car policy with a very optimistic 3000 mile limit.
