Hi everyone. I'm in the market for a new 4WD ute. The new DMax looks pretty good and wondering if anyone else out there has been doing research on the current ute options? Unfortunately it looks like the price of the DMax is now getting close to the Ranger. Seems like the Ranger might still come out in front with options such as tub liner, 12V power to tub, tail gate lift assist, tow bar which don't come with DMax - but the new version looks like it will be a serious challenger. The new Hilux also looks good but will probably be out of my price range. Can't bring myself to the Triton (just yet), but it has a lot of positives going for it as well. Any views that anyone would like to share? cheers

Gee some value add there.. :)

I like the look of the new D-max, all new tech is good, and they've retained the 3 litre engine.
Depends on what spec you're looking for, but I read in one of the press releases that the top of the range D-max will be at the same price point as the Hilux SR5.
Maybe wait until the embargo ends on the reviews and see what they all have to say.

New BT-50 is based on the D-Max. Might be another option.
-
Yeah i am looking hard as my current Dmax is now 8 years old
Looking around at either the new Dmax for ford Ranger and honestly the dmax will only be in the running if the front seats are new as my current dmax seats are terrible
Or
An alternative is to keep the Dmax as my work ute and trade the missus mazda in for a 4wd wagon in that case
I will wait till the new MUX comes out i believe in 2021 or give the prado another go as it is getting the engine upgrade from the hilux and will then be up around 500nm, with hopefully a sorted out DPF

I don't have one but followed one down part of the CSR last year. Managed everything everybody else did with only issue being the plastic underbody protection was a bit vulnerable and it grounded on the crest of a few dunes.
Looked a good thing.
Cheers

Agreed - although 2 x sales enquiries to local dealership have gone unanswered. Business must be good :)

Bump. I've now had 2 x test drives in the LSU model. Looks the goods and drives well - although some of the internal stuff (eg storage) is no better than my 2006 Navara. But plenty of grunt, and I wasn't phased by engine noise which was a criticism of the earlier model. Anyone else had a look yet?

BUMP - still no other swaggers with a DMax? Got mine - LSU - happy so far, but waiting for accessories is excruciating :)

According to the What Do You Drive poll http://www.myswag.org/index.php?topic=1237.0 (http://www.myswag.org/index.php?topic=1237.0), there's 42 of them out there somewhere! ;D
But only 20 MUXs.

Someone should tell this class action mob about the turbo problems, as they're much more widespread than DPF and inner guard cracking from what I've read. The one on my 2017 MUX died at <40,000km and I've heard of owners on their 2nd and 3rd replacements.
I might check my inner guards for cracks before I run out of warranty soon! I should be OK as I don't have a front bar or lift, and I'm not on bad roads regularly. Factors that have certainly contributed to the failure.

Mate of mine never goes off road, car is stock as a rock and only occasionally tows a light van. He didn't find the crack but it was picked up during routine service by the dealer. They volunteered to have it repaired and supplied a courtesy car. It was well outside warranty. When he showed it to me I couldn't see it initially - he didn't tell me what I was supposed to be looking at. Once he told me, I could see it. Quite scary. All good now but took quite a while to get the fix done.

I’ve had the new bt50 for approx 18 months nearly 40k kms on it. It has been faultless. Great Ute.

Auto or manual? The auto that the bloke I drive for is a mongrel thing to drive = forever hunting gears can't sit on a constant speed kick down and up slow as a wet week and cruise control takes you 5kmh over the limit before cutting back. :o

Mines auto. Same box as hilux, prado and triton. If I have a lot of weight on or towing I’ll lock it in 5th on the highway. Yes those boxes are busy things esp compared to the ranger ZF style I had, but I do expect it will last longer than a ranger box also.
You can set the speed limiter for the cruise control. I dont find it much different to any other car. Our Subaru wanders around the set speed similarly.
-
My son has one, he complains it hunts a bit when towing too but he has big wheels on his so no doubt that changed it a bit.
Personally I think its really nice. They have done a lot of work on the inside of them now compared to my older MUX's.

Hi @Fisher, how is the Dmax going after those years?
