What absolute moron invented reverse angle parking >:( This would have to be the stupidest system ever foisted on the public. Some councils have had the brains to go to normal drive in angle parking :cup: but a lot seem to be in the dark ages ??? WTF.
This system is just dumb, it holds up traffic, you can't see a parking spot untill you're level with it and, big deal, it's easier to get out onto the road, stuff me if you can't reverse out without hitting some one you shouldn't be driving
-
Is it the sore neck or the broken mirror which is the problem?
Have been taught in the 3 workplace sponsored driver training programs that I have attend over the years that the safest way to park is always to reverse park. Keep the pedestrians or other vehicles in your mirrors when you park and in your direct vision as you leave the parking spot.
Has worked for me for many decades.
-
Reverse parking is pretty much the standard on mine sites these days as it greatly reduces the likelihood of backing into something or someone.

My kids school is reverse angle parking and I’ve never had an issue with it.
It is fun watching a couple of the mums in their 5” lifted 80 series have a few goes at it and one specific grandma in her 200 series that gives up after a while and double parks at the u-turn bay. ;)
-
It's a hell of a lot easier and safer than nose in angled
reverse parking, when you are exiting the parking spot.
Oops, nose in I meant,
-
They do it that way so you can gas out the shops and alfresco diners with smelly exhaust fumes easier .. ;D

I would have thought it holds up traffic less than nose in parking. But, I don’t have facts and figures to back up that assumption.

Just another old person who can't drive and wants the world altered to suit his unskilled talent.
Might be time to hand the ol license in....hmmm :police:

This is why it should be compulsory. I'm sick of dipchits reversing out into the live traffic. >:D

it is simply designed to catch out people who cant drive. the are usually the same ones winging the loudest about it ;D
-
I think it should be standard for all angle parking. Reverse angle parking is a lot safer than driving straight in.
You can visually see the area you are going to park before backing in.
When driving out you can actually see the traffic before you are half way out on the live traffic.
As your first move is forward you can see a lot more in front of you than you could if reversing out.
Its really a no brainer that reverse parking is a safer option, just ask anyone who has nearly hit someone while reversing out of a drive way or parking spot.
-

x2.... Wondering who the one stuck in the darkages is :D :D :D
-
My two bob's worth is this:
1. You need a lot more road to drive straight in, particularly with a large 4WD. Otherwise you might hold traffic up while you take two bites.
2. You can turn sharper in reverse.
3. Having backed in, when you come out you can see the traffic.
That's three bob.

Yeah it's easier to park but if you have a ute with a canopy on it it is a nightmare to reverse out into the traffic as you can't see a bloody thing. If I have the other half with me I have to get her to be my eyes otherwise it is just pot luck and hope the traffic just stops to let me out. A reversing camera won't help you either as the angles aren't right.
Reverse in parking is so much easier.
-

It is simply designed to make it difficult for people with a canopy on a ute. No other reason. Nothing to do with their driving ability.

Hey, some of those lovely old girls are lucky to actually be able to make the car go in reverse, so looking where the lines are is secondary !! ;D

Mum’s in her late 70’s and very proud of her driving record - not a single accident except for the time she drove straight into Lake Macquarie when she was learning to drive

I keep saying to her “but have you ever looked in the rear vision mirror to check out the carnage you leave behind you?”!

I rate 45 reverse in parking highly.
- Over shoot the slot
- back in and park
- having the steering wheels at the front gives makes it so much easier to park the long wheelbase ute
- When its time to leave; Look out the drivers window, find a gap in the traffic and drive out
WIN.
45 deg drive in on the other hand.... >:(
I visit my sister in Narribri and its nose in 45 down the main street.
- See a park and drive in... (the only advantage)
- Go to leave, so try to look out the left rear window
- but you can't see past the kids head in the back seat
- get the kid to duck down, but now its the rear pillar of the vehicle
- strain your neck trying to see past the pillar
- now you can't see past Felicity's (blond haired farmers wife with the cane shopping basket, you've all see one) Prado/Pajero/Landcruiser that has parked next to you while you were fighting over the view
- cross your fingers and back out and hope that Darren in the B&S ute that is probably cutting laps of Maitland St will stop in time
- while avoiding getting hit from behind you aren't paying attention to the front corner and nearly clean up the back corner of the ute next to you or someone running across the road before Darren completes his hot lap
45 or 90 degree reverse to curb any day of the week.

If you’re turning left, either forward or backwards, makes more sense to put your left blinker on (and if right, then do the opposite) doesn’t it?

Reversing out into traffic is awesome.
What sort of moron would want to drive straight out of a parking bay when you can have heaps of fun reversing out from here and playing delivery van roulette..... ::)

Let the brake lights and reverse lights do their job... and alert those behind that you are backing up...
Last time I checked, most (if not all) reverse parking like you are talking about doesn’t have reverse parking options on both sides of the road...
So the indicators become secondary in this case... you should use one (indicating left), but if the brake lights and reverse lights don’t alert those behind you, then I doubt an indicator will...
Not rocket science...

My two bobs worth.
Nose in parking is for brain dead numties.
See it alot, when it comes to leaving they just reverse out into the lane, sometimes across the street and don't give af what traffic is coming.
I thought it was an offense to pull out into traffic without giving way?
Doesn't't seem to stop them tho.

^^^ Then you get the clowns that couldn't guide a car between two white lines or work out what 45* angle park nose in .. Same goes for 45* angle reverse park actualy means to save their lives ..
Somehow they end up at a shallower angle with the nose or rear over the line closest to the gutter and the same at the road end .

So you can see out the left side and rear good enough to reverse to the left at a prescriptive angle between two white lines and dodging what ever pedestrians might of walked in to the spot whilst you were about to reverse in, but you can't reverse out of a nose in park into a 3 or 4m wide lane?
Wow.
I thought front in parking was a piece of cake. See spot, drive in. Can see all that you need to see out of the big bit of glass in front of the driving position.
Time to go? Select reverse. Look over left shoulder, or shop windows if you can't see anything over left shoulder because of the vehicle to your left, or because you are in van or whatever. When nothing coming reverse out at whatever angle you want, for as far as you need. No precision needed at all.
Learnt to nose in angle park when on my "P"s driving a 8t service truck that barely fitted in a parking bay. Didn't have an issue then. Don't have an issue now. Can't see what is so hard ???

Reverse parking, traffic gives way to you.
Reversing out - you give way to traffic and often can’t see anything.
Not hard to work out.
I lived through Toowoomba in the 80’s/90’s with traffic jams daily directly attributed to the time it takes to blindly reverse out into traffic.

Makes perfect sense to me... when you reverse into the park, the angle between the footpath and the driver side of the car should make an angle of 135 degrees - assuming the park is on the left, which most are.
