This is a slightly good news story, however it is only a 40% reduction on the weight tax component only. Still its better that the leeches suck less blood I suppose. https://www.news.com.au/national/breaking-news/caravan-camper-rego-costs-cut-in-nsw/news-story/3ffa9a898f0ca08f82ffe01c250bd113 (https://www.news.com.au/national/breaking-news/caravan-camper-rego-costs-cut-in-nsw/news-story/3ffa9a898f0ca08f82ffe01c250bd113)

Too bloody much :-X My forward fold costs $65 in rego fees and $270 in weight tax for $335 total. But the turds jacked the weight tax on the 1st of Jan 2018 on mine to $299 so overall they still win. My reduction will be $119 on this years rego, but only $91 less than I paid last year. >:( If you want a comparison in your state have a look at the weight taxes in this link. http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/roads/registration/fees/registration-costs.html#Lightvehicles%E2%80%93motorvehicletax (http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/roads/registration/fees/registration-costs.html#Lightvehicles%E2%80%93motorvehicletax)

Rego due on my camper on the 3rd November... currently registered as a box trailer, but there's a kitchen and camper top (bolted down) so I should be able to get it changed to a camper instead... Will costs about $25 to do it IIRC.

$58.10 in Vic

The annpuncement was short on details. Is this just for campers or will i get it on my boat trailer?

Off the RMS web site "The NSW Government is reducing by 40 per cent reduction the motor vehicle tax for privately owned light caravans and purpose-built camper trailers as of 1 November 2018. " I guess it does not mean boat trailers.

Thanks, thats a real pisser as my boat trailer weighs nothing and only ever does the 3km trip to the slipway, but somehow costs almost as much to register as my camper????
Edit:
Found the rms faq section and really reads as if this is an arbetary decision. Under the grounds given below "lesser use" almost all trailers, from boat to horse and box trailers get less use??? ???
Dont get me wrong happy to see the discount but why not go the whole hog and brung our rego into line with Vic?
Why is it changing? -
The tax is being reduced in response to community and caravan industry feedback around the lesser use of caravans compared with the average car.

Rego costs for cars and other things are out of control... I see so many cars parked up with no plates.. People run the gauntlet as they cant afford it.
round 760/800 for a car/motorcycle down here now

That's why so many people are taking the piss out of club permits in Vic. Anything older than 25 years and you can get a 45 day permit for $76. Just need to join a club like the Phoenix car club for $50 a year. Then drive it everyday without bothering to fill out the logbook.....

Yep, seen plenty of GQ and 60's around in recent weeks.. it hadnt clicked until you said it

And in Qld, once you have the club rego, get a personalized plate so it isn't obvious to Mr.Plod that it's a club rego unless he looks it up.

Even harder soon with all cop cars being kitted out with number plate recognition cameras.
I've heard of a few unsubstantiated claims of police photographing club permit vehicles out and about. Then rocking up at the owners house that night and requesting to see the logbook. They dish out an unregistered vehicle fine if the logbook is not complete for that day.

Thats what I was saying, once you have the "club permit" plate, if you then get a vanity plate it no longer shows the "club Permit" bit.

Not an option in Vic
