5 Weeks till surgery, Doc wanted me down to 115 Kg .. from 132 + Kg . Aim is to hold around the 115 > 118 Kg as long as I can after surgery and back on more calories per day, since being on very low calorie diet .
Starting 2018 at :

Only a newbie but hoping I can use this forum and loose some of this excess weight.
Those Cruise Ships are great and the food even better. Guess I made a pig of myself, not to mention the drink.

I just wrote down the calorie counts for everything I eat / drink set myself a daily limit, Dont deny yourself anything but just adjust your daily intake to account for it .

I'm 6'5" and the chart rekons I'm obese. !! Recommend weight is 95kgs. I haven't been that since i was 13. Need to lose the gut so i can fit behind the wheel of that 55 f100

Id be interested to know what / how you intend to drop weight, as there are so many differing opinions / methods out there to losing weight. I lost a lot of weight the last two years from a mix of a lot of exercise but also eating a high fat diet (healthy fats).
Has anyone tried a higher fat lower carb lifestyle before? there is a big movement in that direction the last couple of years.

Working for me ok, tho XMas I splashed out and put a tad on, but I know that will come off easy.
Maintaining 100 atm then will give a little push in a month or so.

Hi All, Starting weight 93kg I am 92,2kg which is good if I can loose around 1kg a week over the next few months I will happy. To do this I have cut back on sugar in my tea and soft drink and chockies, I have one bit of toast for brecky one sandwich for lunch and fruit, and tea time I only eat tea no desert, Craig

Cokeaholic here too, though I have been good and limited to 1 a day .. Now that Im steady at the target weight ATM .. I sometimes splurge to two or three on special occasions but compensate for it .

Hey Mate, I've been doing this for about 4 years and started at 140 kg and currently about 104 kg.
So clearly I'm a slow and steady kind of guy but have manged to finish each year 8-10 kgs lighter and have got my waist measurement down to under 100cm from 122+.
I've got a bit to go before I'm at fighting weight and would like to get the waist down to at least 92cm this year but will see how it goes.
For what it's worth, this is what works for me.
1. Work out your body type, which are Ectomorph, Endomorph, or Mesomorph. Just google to read more. I fall somewhere between Endo and Meso. I'm mainly Endo and sugar/ Shit carbs kill me.
2. Install the MyFitnessPal (MFP) app. There are others, I've only used MFP.
3. Setup MFP with your goals, Activity Levels etc
4. RECORD EVERYTHING YOU PUT IN YOUR MOUTH
5. RECORD EVERYTHING YOU PUT IN YOUR MOUTH
6. It's as simple as that. If you set your activity levels correctly, and record everything you eat/drink, and create a deficit you will lose weight. Losing weight is hard work.
7. The process of recording everything you eat makes you think about your meals and helps with planning your day and week. It can be a pain in the arse, but losing weight is hard work and this is what you have to do.
8. MFP will give you a breakdown of Carbs/Fats/Protein (Macros) per food,meal,day,week etc and you can work out what works for you.
9. As an Endomorph a 33% slit of the macros works really well for me, I'm not anal and as long as each is in the 30% range I'm happy. Again, to achieve your balance can be a pain in the arse. Losing weight is hard work.
10. Drink Shitloads of water, at least a couple of litres a day.
I weigh myself everyday and record it into MFP. This keeps me motivated and on-track. I'm a nerd and MFP has graphs etc for tracking weightloss/gain over different time periods so again this helps motivation.
I have a bit of a holiday from using MFP periodically, normally around winter holidays when we travel/sit on an island for a couple of weeks. I'm a slow learner and am finally figuring out the occasional blowout doesn't do any damage, but reverting to old habits for even a shortish period of time sets you back months. Remember losing weight is hard work.
TL;DNR - Losing weight is hardwork, by recording everything that you consume, you'll understand what macro split works for you.
But however you do it, make it sustainable.

By end of year I would love to be under the tonne, but with a second child due in April, I dunno how I will go after then. So am thinking if I can get down to 120kgs by then, it’ll give me the motivation to keep going.

I am the same gordo, 6'5", 125kg, haven't been 95kg since i was 16.
But i am in on this, this year, aiming to get to around 105kg!
My challenge is, being a type 1 diabetic (of 20 years), makes the whole calorie intake juggling quite difficult. Will see how i go.

As at check-in with the admissions office this morning at the hospital, Edz got down to 113.3kg (I am sure the nurse said). Edz was very happy with his weight after getting off the scales. Surgery went well after just over 6 hours on the table and now he is resting up in his hospital bed tonight and for at least another couple of days.

Hi Vern, No worries, For me I have stopped eating as much sugar as possible, No sugar in my tea , I have give away coffee as I can not drink it with out sugar, Breakfast I have I bit of toast, for lunch one ham, or chicken, or coined meat and salad sandwich. Dinner time I have a smaller feed than normal, of anything I want , I gave up ice cream, I mite have some fruit for dessert, I have no softdrink or or beer, but that was easy as I never drank beer away, I do not exercise only when I am working, I have been losing around 4 to 500g a week, Craig

My balance between food intake and insulin levels makes it hard for me, blood sugar gets to low, i have to eat, no two ways about it. Sugar, haven't had any for over 20years.
Thinking my best bet is to lower my food intake and insulin, take it easy and see how i go.
Have put on about 20kg in the last 2 years, i haven't changed my lifestyle at all, guess i am just getting older. (44)
. Also the joys of being a type one of over 20 years. Wish i could just skip meals, would be easier

My journey has been a slow one to date as I am a stubborn ba5tard.
My wife is a fully qualified nutritionist and has a sound knowledge base to draw from. She has used that knowledge and was looking for suitable partnerships to be able to assist more people. Full disclaimer here - as a result she is now a distributor for Herbalife Nutrition.
She has personally lost 21 kg and gone from a size 14/16 to a size 8. Did this over about 12 months.
I am slow to the party, and from my peak have lost 12kg, but most recently about 5kg of that in 2 weeks, as I have pulled my head in and actually listening to what she says!!
Apart from the weight loss to date, the feeling of well being is a significant change also. Feel better, have more energy and sleeping significantly better also.
No exercise in this, except for walking every second day or so.

I had a talk to a friend who suggested that along with my egg protein diet that I also take Apple Cider Vinegar 3 times a day, which I have been doing and might be my imagination but it seems to help a lot.

I've been doing a ketogenic diet last 18 months. Moderate protein, low carb, fat per my goals (low fat as I'm wanting to lose). Lost 65kg over that time, most of that in the first 12 months. Have spent the last three months maintaining and building muscle.
It's been, well, great. I get to eat a whole bunch of meat and fresh veg. Food is always delicious and filling.

Hi Vern .. My journey started by listing the calories of everything that I normaly ate, Then limiting my self to 800 > 1000 calories per day .. Exercise was normal work duties, I do quite a lot of walking at work [ Just picked up the pace when I could ] .
Still enjoyed 1/2 doz mid strength beers a week, Didnt deny any treats, Just adjusted the amounts to suit and the same with portion size for meals ..
Once the Kg's dropped a bit I would up the calories to 1500 > 2000 then drop back down to the 800 > 1000 cals ..
Water was plentifull but every ltr put a Kg on, so that was a juggle with smaller regular amounts to stay well hydrated .

Well the time has come, I've been retired for 12 months and have done a lot of sitting on my rear end and a recent confirmation of a parasite infection and some non too pretty blood results means it's time to try and lose some weight. The old bathroom scales show 117.3 today down 600g from last week.
The wife tells me the scales weigh 3kg heavy in comparison to the hospital scales but I'll run with what ours say as it's the only measure I've got.
Goal weight is 100kg

Pretty happy with that, but if I can get down to 80kg I’ll be even happier. ;)
It’s been a conscious effort this year after about 8 years of laziness.
I’ve hovered between 77kg and 85kg since high school and always said I don’t want to be over 95kg, was a bit of a shock when I saw I was so close to triple figures at Christmas time. :(
So the wife and I have been walking at least 5km every morning and throw in a bunch of pushups and dips halfway through. We jog a couple of km a couple of times a week.
And apart from eating Subway instead of Maccas when I’m on the road for work that’s about the only real lifestyle change I’ve done.
Still drink way too much beer and pile up the dinner plate with my wife’s awesome cooking every night. ;)
I’m not one to keep a running telly with this weight loss stuff, but will post up if I can manage to get down to 80kg.

Small can of baked beans a banana and two beers for a day or two and you'd be down into the high 70's Pete ;D Then set yourself a 2000 cal limit and maintain .

Still maintaining at 95kg so I'm stoked, eating more and more slowly without gaining, benefits of lifting. Down from 160kg+ starting weight September 2016.
Never been happier about the decision to start a ketogenic diet, saved my own life I'm sure.
