Title: Mildura to get new motorsports complex with the workz
Post by: Bird on November 28, 2017, 08:53:10 AM
Sounds fantastic!!! Karting, jet boats, drag strip - the works....

But will be bolloxed when someone finds a rare flea living in the area where its going to go... like the one at Nowra few months ago that was killed off due to a "rare orchid" (http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-03-29/rare-orchid-halts-motorsports-complex-on-south-coast/8396090)...

Plans for Mildura Motorsports and Community Precinct Revealed

The Mildura Motorsports and Community Precinct was officially unveiled in Melbourne last week and lauded as the most exciting new motorsport facility in Victoria in 30 years.

The $21.8 million project, planned for north west Victoria, near Mildura, is shovel-ready and will include as part of Stage 1:
•a three-kilometre bitumen race circuit
•multi-use skid pan
•pit facilities
•control tower and office facilities

Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS) Chief Executive Officer Eugene Arocca and multiple V8 Supercars champion and motorsport industry expert Mark Skaife (OAM) and Motorcycling Australia’s (MA) Operations Director Martin Port were among those at the event, throwing their support behind the project, as well as Mildura’s own local motorcycle road racing hero Josh Waters.

They highlighted the ideal timing for such a facility, citing the perfect storm of both the shortage and increasing demand for race tracks in Victoria and the ongoing and significant growth in motorsports across the country.

Describing the project as “an outstanding return on investment” for potential investors, Mr Arocca said the initiative had the backing of Australia’s peak industry body.

“It’s a very unique opportunity, investors out there, private or government, really need to look at this and embrace it. We couldn’t be happier to have been involved almost from day one,” he said.

Mr. Skaife meanwhile highlighted the demand and popularity of motorsport facilities in Australia at the moment.

"Sydney Motorsport Park and Phillip Island – you pay in excess of $15,000 a day, and you cannot get on,” he said, indicating the number of drivers and riders who utilise these and other motorsport facilities each weekend.

Both spoke about the emergence of regional centres like Mildura as the future for motorsport facilities given the expense of developing similar projects in metropolitan areas, making the Mildura Motorsports and Community Precinct even more attractive to potential investors.

all the local ice dealers will be wrapped with the injection of fresh stuff for the addicts to steal :D
Apparently its not a happy town at the moment.. Had a chick I grew up with move there from Qld last xmas and she lasted 5 mths before moving - her house was broken into 4 times.

but that complex has some Shit hot features I reckon - all in one place... just don't let anyone build within 20klms radius of it.

just like almost every other motorsport complex in Australia....................someone will build a house near it then complain about the noise.

Agree... I'm shocked that Eastern Creek and Sandown are still going..
Bloke I drove with for Chemtrans had a house across from turn 2 about 1klm in a straight line - his was compulsory acquired due to the prospect of complaints - no arguing its happening..
he was a racing nut, and was so looking forward to having a track in his front yard! :(

I agree that, sadly, it'll probably be noise that's going to stop it :'(

They've spoken for years about doing the same sort of thing in Pimpama / Jacob's Well area between Brissie & the GC. that area is mostly cane farms that are all on the edge of being unprofitable to run, so half the farmers say Yes, please, while the other half say No way ??? That would be perfect - in the middle of 100k2 of cane, soaking up the noise beautifully :D

he was a racing nut, and was so looking forward to having a track in his front yard! :(

Might not have been such a bad thing though ??? Sure, he's a racing fan, but he'd be looking at a pretty limited market come time to eventually sell :'(

You could be right, I hadn't thought of it that way...
but his "compulsory acquisition" price he was given for his acreage was a pittance... like most of them are.

Also getting a new circuit at The Bend (https://www.thebend.com.au/circuit) which will be running a Supercars race in August next year.
Two new circuits only 300Ks apart :)  Things are looking up for racing in Oz.

For my part, I would have thought that it is simply to far from anywhere to be practical. Really one major race a year and local use is not going to sustain it.
I can't see teams heading up there for trials and practice etc. particularly on a regular basis.

Even during construction, it probably cannot happen without a heap of Taxpayer money.

That was my initial thought too.. but then you cannot build them close to suburbia due to ****tards building houses next to it then complaining about noise.. ask Castlereagh Dragstrip, Oran and Amaroo Parks in Sydney alone. Amaroo battled for years until the whingers actually got into the council (mayor etc) and that was the end.. Have a look at it on google earth - you can still see the outline of it, and only about 5 houses there.

Sort of agree. but maybe having everything else out there not just cars/bikes etc maybe enough.. I'm sure they've done the numbers.

it might be the perfect place to do some secret training ;)

When Amaroo closed, and before Eastern Creek opened I talked my old bike club in Sydney into running 1 round of our champs at Winton Vic. Shame they wouldn't go for Phillip Island!

Racers will travel specially for the first 2-3 years while its all new. Spectators - I don't think I'd go there to watch a car/bike race from Melb/Syd/Adelaide. but people from the bush are a different kettle of fish...

Too far away to be viable for weekend racers or weekday driver training

Having lived in the area until recently I giggle at some of the comments above.

Yes there is a drug problem in town, but while I was there I never had anything broken into or stolen.

There is plenty of money in Mildura and the town really enjoy their motorsports, whether it be speedway, open wheeled racing, Hattah desert race, or power boats, all motorsports are well supported.

Too far.. it's 3.5hrs from Adelaide, 3hrs from places like Broken Hill, Hay and Various Victorian towns. People will travel for this type of attraction. It also has an airport.

Sounds like the project Howie from Race Brakes never got off the ground for out the back of Diggers Rest...

If I had a dollar for everytime he told me his dream is be as rich as he'd have needed to be to build it

Sandown is a big problem for them so other tracks need to be considered.

Ballarat has also had something bubbling along for a few years and probably makes a lot of sense given its only 1 hour from Melbourne on double lane 110km/h highway.

Cant find the article any more but at one point CAMS even suggested that if Ballarat went ahead then CAMS would shift its operations to Ballarat.

It'll be fine. After the introduction of electric only cars racing in 2021, the only noise will be the scratches from disconnecting the Anderson Plugs re-charging the batteries and the pop of the Chardonnay corks.

With the new same sex legislation and the accompanied 'soft touch" don't offend anyone changes, these will need to be re-named Anderperson plugs. Son is sooooo sexist now.
Plus the new technology brought in for South Aussie renewable energy batteries, this 4 hours will be reduced to 3 hours 59 minutes, so don't feel too hard on the bloke/sheila/person.

I wasn't aware that they had legislated for us to be the same sex.  Which sex is that and how is it related to "soft touch"  I seem to recall certain people of one sex or another who preferred rough touch.

Please explain!!

Sydney Indoor Motox Park approved by Blacktown City Council
Australia’s first indoor motocross facility – Sydney Indoor MotoX Park – has been approved by Blacktown City Council with construction expected to begin early in the new year.

The venue will be constructed within the confines of Eastern Creek International Karting Raceway, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this month and will change its name to Sydney Premier Karting Park.

After a lengthy process to present its plans to Council, Sydney Indoor MotoX owners Mattew and Barbara Bartolo are thrilled with the news that Council has approved Western Sydney’s newest tourist attraction.
