Title: No more 2 stroke motors
Post by: Diver on September 13, 2017, 04:02:50 PM
Probably not a big concern for campers or caravans unless you are running a chainsaw.  Not a lot of people buying 2 stroke gennies.  Looks like both big and small carby 2 stroke motors are finishing up.

After July 1, 2019, any carbie outboards in stock at dealers or importers must be destroyed or re-exported.

Conversion kits for carby to single throttle body injection will become popular no doubt.....

I've had a Tohatsu fuel injected outboard that meets 2019 California standards since the early 00's... Best thing I ever did to my boat.

Uses bugger all fuel, and heaps more responsive

What a joke seems pointless exercise if they are saying the importers have to re export non compliant gear lol let's just send the engines to a country that doesn't care about emissions so it looks like we care about emissions hahahahahah

You mean like the American manufacturers did when their local emissions regulations where much stricter then our laws here and they dumped their outboard motors that didn't comply to their standards into our market and still charged us a premium for an almost worthless product??

No, mate. They'll actually be lighter as they'll all be made using Chinese steel! ;D

Worst thing is with small outboards the 2 strokes are a lot cheaper to buy, with our small 4m dinghy we went 2 stroke because of weight and the price difference for what it is,

At the last show I couldn't believe the price of a tinny on a trailer with a decent motor these days..  You'd wanna use it weekly to get value out of it

Yes they have atleast doubled in price In the last 10 years I know when we got ours brand new 4m stacer and a brand new mercury 15hp 2 stroke it was around 5k now I was looking not long ago a similar set up 8-12k we have a bigger boat so the dingy hardley gets used just for a quick fish or dive (depending on where we go and if I take the hookah or tanks the 15 struggles with a couple of blokes and hookah haha) but you almost wouldn't but a new one now for what we use it for
