Title: Snatch Straps

How old is to old for snatch straps?
I have a couple that have never been use, but are a couple of years old.

I've got one that's about 4 years old, still in the plastic packaging... At the moment I have no intention is replacing it

As long as the stitching for the loops are not tearing, it's all good.
I have one that has seen many snatches and is nearly 10 years old. I do keep a new one in reserve just in case

I have one I bought on my honeymoon as a birthday present for me.

Bought it at ARB in Lithgow...

28th....

July....

1996.

Its still in really good condition, although the blue dye washed out of it the first time I washed it. Always kept in a canvas bag out of the sun.
I've probably almost got my $50 worth out of it by now :cheers:.

It is the one I trot out if someone hasn't got their own gear, I'll be a bit annoyed if it gets trashed, but not too upset.
The brand new one I bought I keep for myself.

Same as Hoyks,

I have one I reckon is nearly 20 years old and still is in good nick and probably used less than 5 times.
I have a new ARB onw that I won at the annual myswag event at Rainbow and its still in its box.

I rarely tow anyone out if they dont have their own gear.....unless their really old or it an emergency situation.

I have a blue ARB strap that I purchased in 1984 when I got a new HiLux fitted out by ARB. I had not used it for car snatching in years and has not been used now for 2 years now due to moving and no longer needing firewood but prior to that was regularly used in snigging logs in my collection of firewood. Always with a damper placed over and  Velcro on and never failed me. Most likely payed as much then as they cost today as well.

My snatch strap and other straps are only a few years old and only been used once maybe twice now.... i'd prefer to use something I know is in good condition when it comes to my safety, then use and old strap and hope it is ok because it looks good.

Just get them tested! Probably cost more than a new strap. But you could run it by a tester

I've still got a mean green strap and canvas bag from a 4wd monthly subscription renewal from the mid to late 90's. Grit and sunlight hurts them.  They also have a finite number of stretches in them too so they will wear out. Stored correctly, they shouldn't age unless the stitching lets go which I haven't seen. I have rigging gear (slings) older than that which still get tagged and used.

Grit and mud is definitely the killer, second only to my missus after using the washing machine to remove excess mud and grit from my precious snatch straps

Our snatch strap is over 10 years old , never been used - It could be because the BT50 have never been stuck  ;D ;D

I have a TJM strap purchased in 1990 for a trip to the NT. Never been out of it's plastic bag it came in. I also have a new ARB one just in case.
