Title: Kakadu camp grounds

Hi all,
First time poster and new to the camper trailer game, looking for some advice for my first week long journey.
My self and the family are gonna be hitting kakadu in a few wks for 7 days. am just wondering whats the best camp ground to set the trailer up at to make day trips easier. want to stay in the one area for a few days and then move down to the mary river region the last few days.

When we went a few years ago, we stayed at Jabiru for a couple of days and looked around the northern part of the park then down at Mardugul where its close to Yellow water, Jim Jim falls and twin falls.
Found Mardigul really good, wasn't overly busy even though it was school holidays.

We spent 7 days and did 3 from jabiru doing day trips down to yellow river and the viewing platform and rock art at ubirr. Then we made it way back to gunlom falls for a few days. Maguk was a good stop over and campsite as well.

Take LOTS of mozzie repellant or you'll be  :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
Also check with the parks people to see just what is open, we were there in mid June and a lot of areas were still closed because of high water levels and associated croc threat.

The "Park Pass" is a joke, not 1 person that we spoke to was ever asked to show theirs

I wouldn't stay at one place for the whole week. A couple of days at Jabiru if you want to look around the Northen part, but you only have 2 choices there (both commercial caravan parks).

Cooinda (yellow water) for the wetlands & JimJim/Twin falls (commercial caravan park at the resort $$$$$ or nat park beside the swamp I think)

There is camping near JimJim, as well as Magook & Gumlum falls for the southern falls area. Google has lots of info about the nat park campgrounds in that area.

+1000 for the mozzie repellent especially at Gunlom falls as they are big down that way

Gunlom Falls campsite wasn't anything special, but I highly recommend going there to sit in the falls at the top. It is one of the most beautiful places I've been to.

The mozzies were so bad when we were there, rooftop tent with windows open and just the fly mesh to protect us and it sounded like a swarm of bee's trying to get in!
Shine a torch on the mesh and they're all there trying to get in, big brown bastards! Never seen anything like it ;D

Jesus, that's sounds bad. Ha. I'll make sure I've got plenty of repellent. Yeah I'm real keen for gunlom. Looks amazing.
