Title: Ant Prevention
Post by: pommiedic on April 23, 2017, 12:16:55 PM
G'day,

Any advice of preventing ants getting into the canvas, when the CT is non in use?

I've done a search here, which brings up lots of non ant information.

Thanks in advance.

Where is the CT parked? The area/soil around the CT could be treated, a pest controller (like me) could possibly locate the nest/s & treat them, we also have ant granules & gels that are extremely successful. They are more difficult to control outside a home but things can be improved.

Place a small tray under  all three wheels with a solid  spacer and a larger tray inverted over the top of it to set the camper onto, put oil in the lower tray to insulate the camper totaly from the ground  ..
If on grass use theee big concrete pavers as a base for the trays ..
Make sure nothing touches the camper or the tops of the tray  from branches or blades of grass .
Over size top tray stops bottom tray filling with water

Yes...that is what I do at home....but they can also drop from overhanging trees so I'm told.

BiL puts talcum powder on his jockey wheel & stabilisers as they won't walk through it - reckons they don't / won't climb the rubber of the tyres ???

1/2 cup white sugar
1 1/2 Tbs of boric acid
1 1/2 cups of warm water

Mix the sugar and boric acid well.
Add warm water slowly, mixing well.
Store in a jar.
I then use a plastic milk bottle lid with a cotton ball, slightly pulled apart to cover the lid as this gives the ants some where to walk on while sucking up the mixture.
Boric acid comes in a powder form.

Non toxic to humans and pets.

              cheers Ron.

Or you could probably just buy a bottle of Ant Rid for about $4 and save the hassle making it up, sounds pretty much the same to me.

You could do similar to what use to happen with the table in the lunch shed on building sites when I was an apprentice were each leg was placed in a tray of water to stop ants crawling onto table, but then you might breed mozzies in the water!

If there are ants around my wife puts plenty of talcum powder around anywhere the ants could get somewhere into the camper, such as tyres, jockey wheel, stabilisers.

Seems to work as we've never had issues.

Talcum and borax mixed work ok. Pidgeons pest control 500 all over the tyres and jockey wheel and they wont exist for very long.

Another vote for Talcum powder, 100% effective.
The ants just will not walk on it.

Shit yeah............you'll never have anything alive around the house ever again.
My very old neighbour put me onto the PPC 2000 years ago.....that'll kill a horse that stuff.

I think its illegal to use on residential properties now.
