Post by: archer63 on April 09, 2017, 12:37:03 PM
Wife and I are heading up to Hervey Bay for a week sometime this Autumn and hoping for some feedback on Caravan parks that people have stayed in.
Cheers
Rob

Oops Hervey Bay.
But being from Brisbane I'm sure you could work out where I meant

Thanks JP.

It's either Hervey Bay or Woodgate at this stage.

Cheers

We have stayed at one called Hervey Bay Caravan Park, on Margaret st.  Neat and clean, small, no jumping castles etc for kids.  Easy walk to  small shopping centre, or for a wander around the botanic gardens (check out the orchid house!).   Right alongside the bowls club, but they didn't bother us.   Short drive to pier etc (or longer walk).

Burrum Heads is not as far to drive as you might think, and is a nice relaxed beach style park by the river.  Don't discard the idea out of hand.

Usually any of the 3 beachfront parks are great if you like being right on the beach.  There is beach rock wall construction going on at the Torquay park which is quite noisy so best to avoid that one for the next few months.

We were thinking the same, late winter, do any of the beach front camps allow dogs?

No pets at any of the 3 at Hervey Bay or the beachfront one at Burrum Heads - all are council owned.  I believe some of the other privately owned parks in Hervey Bay do allow pets - and some are close to the beach - but you would have to check with them.

after living in maryborough all my life(30 mins from hervey bay) i'd suggest go to woodgate. much nicer and quieter. also less chance of theft. in my opinion, hervey bay is an overrated dump.

There is another park down Urangan end that might be checking for pets policy. Front three parks are great (never stayed in them, I have family who live in the Bay so I go there often, but have known plenty of friends who have stayed in the beachfront parks and rate them). Good info about the Torquay park, I hadn't heard that.

Hervey Bay has an... interesting demographic. ;) My retired mother loves it there. I have to agree a little with the "overrated" comment, but I have spent a LOT of time there. Anyone with teenagers likely will find them getting pretty bored. At least the shopping centre got the upgrade it desperately needed. Its a nice spot if you want to do some fishing and kick back to relax, but there's not heaps to do otherwise.

Can't help with any recommendations, but your post made me recall our old family holidays we had in Hervey Bay as kids. There used to be an outdoor roller skating rink in the Main Street we would go to, they used to attach the skates to the bottom of your shoes with big thick rubber bands wrapped over your feet...lol.

yeah it would have been a good 35 years ago I'm talking about Nomad. Used to visit the arcade across the road also, and I remember there was a floating trampoline / jumping pillow thing we used to swim out to whilst holidaying there aswell.

Good memories hey Rumpig !!
Must be over 25 years nice I last went to Hervey Bay, but back then it really was a quiet retirees paradise. Will soon find out how much it has changed since, but paid in full today so we are now committed. Plan is to just relax and maybe take one of those glass bottom boat tours, do a little fishing etc. Not going over to Fraser this time as we went over for a day trip last November when we stayed at Rainbow Beach. Very nice but not keen on repeating ourselves so soon.

Doubt I'd recognise the place these days mate, like you it's been a very long time since I was last there.

Yes, I am more than a little curious. Didn't see much the last time I was there with mates as we spent most of our time at the pub playing pool...think it was Pialba...but not sure.

The good old Eighties  :D. We used to stay in units on the Esplanade and if the wind wasn't blowing the right way sweating our rear ends off. The old man was ok as he just went to the Scarness pub
