How do you light your heat beads on the road. Looking at our pending half lap and looking At where we can save on space, taking the choofer to light Heat beads seems a bit of an over kill.
How do people light head beads on the road ?
-
Look out for traffic.
Sorry couldn't help myself.
How many times are you expecting to use heat beads. The chimney thing might be your only option
-
I carry one of these with my camp kit to light fires and heat beads. Already carry the safety butane canisters so to add the torch to the kit was an easy addition. Having said that, these cheapies off eBay can be a but hit and miss. I ended up buying a quality torch head from a hardware store after the first 2 eBay units crapped themselves.

But listen closely, not for very much longer

I do the same but must be the plumber in me.
Also the best for lighting the fire.
In our old place we had one next to the fire place to make lighting fire easy, wife and daughters loved the simplicity of this method.

Latestater you ok bruz, don't worry eyebrows grow back.

Self lighting heat beads.

I use this one from Bunnings. Fits the disposable canisters available everywhere.

The uniflame charcoal starter from Drifta works just like the heat bear chimney except it fold flat!!
-
I just put my heat bead chimney on top of my gas stove and light the stove. I also use a gas ring to do this as well.
-
After looking at the Drifta one I wonder if this would work http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Outdoor-Cooking-Camping-Stainless-Steel-Folding-Wood-Alcohol-Pocket-Stove-/132107086884?hash=item1ec2322c24:g:m64AAOSwx6pYrpmn (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Outdoor-Cooking-Camping-Stainless-Steel-Folding-Wood-Alcohol-Pocket-Stove-/132107086884?hash=item1ec2322c24:g:m64AAOSwx6pYrpmn)
Not as good but 1/10th the price.
Perhaps put on the stove a jclures suggested
-
I got from ebay one very much like the Drifta one, but mine is square and folds flat. Use it on the gas stove to get beads happening, but a fire starter or two underneath work just as well, only much slower than the gas.
Folds flat! ... Bugger the round jobbies. They are way to big !! 8)
I think mine came from Korea.
fwiw

No advances on MAP gas? I was sure someone would have something more extreme - Oxy torch anyone?
-
Dunno, but now I feel like a real caveman now. :)
Apparently I'm the only one left that still uses the old trusty fire lighters.

There's always at least one full pack of these stashed in our trailer.

Well, you may be a caveman, Pete ???, but you're not the only one who still uses fire lighters, although ours are Little Lucifers, that you just break off, rather than individual little blocks :D

yea but hes looking to save space... a box of matches is FAR too big let alone fire lighters..

Not sure if this is of any use but did see it on the Drita site http://www.drifta.com.au/uniflame-charcoal-starter/ (http://www.drifta.com.au/uniflame-charcoal-starter/)
Edit- OK I was a bit slow on this as I just went back up the thread and found the same link :'(
