Hi guys,
I have done some searching around here but I cant see anyone who has gone down this path. I started with a 1985 Jayco Dove, which has now been renovated inside to new again, and I am about to begin the outside.
Before I do, and long story short, the only original bits left from the 1895 Jayco will be the wooden framing of the walls, floor, bed frames, lift system and maybe the fridge.
It will have totally new chassis towball to back with dual wheel carrier, new axle, brakes, springs, wheels, coupling, lights, cladding, roof frame, list goes on. The weight will also change.
So then I thought, what if I could re-licence it here in WA as a 2017 Plate, Custom Made Camper? It will be a new trailer, with the old Jayco Box welded on top but looking new.
Am I crazy or has someone done this before?
Cheers.

Sounds like a home made trailer with a jayco body on it to me... so whats the problem?

Cheers guys I have seen Burnseys one. Great job.
What I am getting at is can it be licensed as a new 2017 camper, new vin etc, or will the inspector say it's a 85 Jayco with new everything.
Therefore better for insurance and also resale down the track if we ever decide to.

I will start a build thread soon, just need to get some time to write one up. ;)

If the chassis needs a new vin then it's a new trailer built with recycled parts, basically, at least in NSW, if they supply you a VIN then it has to meet current regulations and will be listed as a 2017 trailer. You would have to battle to register it as an earlier year if you wanted to go that route :)

I think if you're building a new chassis etc for it then it really is a new build. Get a VIN and rego it as new. But make sure you check out VSB1 (?) as it'll need to comply with new regulations that the old trailer didn't.
My build is basically a new van built from second hand parts too.
