Our split system aircon at home is not quite coping with the hot weather. Given that they are designed to run outdoors in all weather, would introducing a very soft water mist into the air inlet side of the outside unit make it perform better?
-
A small misting will help with cooling, also try isolating it electrically and hosing out the condenser/radiator. Quite often they will be blocked with leaves, feathers etc.
-
If it is in full sunlight try shading it as it will help a lot.
-
It's in the shade and I gave it a bit of a hose-out, but didn't see any muck coming out.
It's going to be 40 degrees tomorrow, so I'll try the water mist and see how it goes.
-
Have you cleaned the filter recently? Amazing how dirty they get in no time at all.
-
Give it a good clean out.
Quick search for 'mizu foam' will help.
Make sure the drain is free and use a pump sprayer to give the fins a good flush afterwards.
And shade the compressor if possible.

Dicko.

I believe so. They have a pretty good website with some good FAQ.

I'll try the Mizu Foam next week. Thanks for the tip.
I did try running the water mist into the back of the compressor today and it has made a noticeable difference in the 38 degree heat. So much so that my wife commented on it without knowing what I had done. So it must be true.

Set hoses to spray onto a 40ton unit (about the size of a small truck) when 3 of 6 fans failed and had it run on water for about a month.
So yes water adds to the cooling affect
-
How old is it as it may need topping up the gas unless it's not quite rated for the area/volume and the stinkers find it out.
-
The area is way to big for the aircon on super hot days. Great in winter though.
Am loving the water mist.

hope you put the spray on outdoor unit.
had to turn the aircon up today from 24 to 25 as it was getting too cool and I live almost at Penrith. I so hate my 19kw 3phase AC ;D

Eighteen degrees and light shower or two in Adelaide this morning- http://www.dorotheamackellar.com.au/archive/mycountry.htm (http://www.dorotheamackellar.com.au/archive/mycountry.htm) :cup:

yes, spraying water on the condenser will give your machine much greater capacity. Do it for too long (months or years) and the aluminium condenser will fall apart.
