Title: KK replacement Batteries
Post by: LB on February 08, 2017, 09:42:53 AM
looks like its time to replace the batteries, volts keep dropping, fridge beeping even though the batteries are saying over 70% charge left.

Spoken to Kimberly and they recommend the Ritar brand. As it's recommended to replace all at the same time this means 6 so rather a large bill. Just want to know peoples thoughts on this brand or is there a better one. Also would you just replace the faulty ones or all.

We have got a quote from a local rep which $123.15 each for the Ritar ones which seems like a good price.

Mate, I would replace all of them, despite the cost. The old ones would only drag the new ones down, meaning that you will have the same issue sooner rather than later.

There are people who have swapped them for 3 bigger ones.
They had to modify the bracket though.
Do a search, I know it is on this forum somewhere.

Did consider that but there really doesn't seem you would be saving enough to justify the modification.

Well you could get a 100ah for the price of 2 x 33ah so that is definitely a saving plus reduces wiring and probably weight as well.

The price for a 100ah ritar is somewhere between $320 and $357 (with delivery). The cheaper end is ebay which Im not a big fan of for stuff like that for warranty reasons. The six 33h will cost $738.90 the wiring is already there for six and the weight difference is about 3kg so I don't see the point of going to the effort. Plus I doubt you could modify the area enough to get it down to only 2.

What I really want to know is what ritar is like as a brand.

Ritar is a pretty good brand. KK have used them, I have had 3 X 120 a/h's in my "van" for nearly 5 yrs now...I think they may have lost a bit of capacity, but still perform OK.

Nothing wrong with buying off ebay, especially if they are fairly close to your town, and ask about returns before buying. Sometimes they are an actual shopfront selling them.

I have just replaced all of my KK ones as well......looked at doing the two big ones v's six smaller ones........decided just to do the 6 smaller ones as i was not comfortable with the clearance between the terminals and the bed base. I paid $110 each for them from a battery mate in town so the $123 price is not too bad

The Battery rep came out and all the batteries tested fine. It still may be the batteries but he suggested having it looked at by an Auto Electrician before forking out for new ones wow an honest sales rep.

Good on him.
By doing that he knows you will go to them without hesitation when you do need batteries, as will everyone you tell about it, cheap advertising on his part not to mention good old fashion pride in his work.

Give them a plug, don't be afraid to spread it round when you find a good operator, they are the ones you want to stay in business.
