Being in the market for something to replace our camper as we travel and work Australia, we are looking at all options from vans, hybrids, rear folds new or old.
Looking at what people advertise on caravancampingsales I am stunned how they present their second hand product. Talk about no idea.
Some of the things that have stood out that make me scratch my head:
Little or no information / description on what they are selling
No weights such as Tare, ATM etc mentioned
Next to no photos
Photos of them camping with crap everywhere
Photos blurred or poorly taken
Photos of crap inside their van where you can't see anything
The best one so far was a pop top hybrid that they kept the top down and stood in the doorway to take pics.
Honestly, they expect people to spend $60k plus and wonder why they have no interest or get ridiculous offers.
Just a hint spend $500 on professional photos of what you are selling with no crap inside and with all the features plus a comprehensive description of the product including the Tare, Atm etc.
Let buyers jump at your product not shake their head in how bad your ad is.
Time for another

Lol......are you letting your inner real estate agent back out?
Its not just campers.
I have a deal with the local newspaper photographer to take photos of my property listings. He charges me $55 for about 5 good external shots......and vendors bitch about that even though the property might be worth $1million plus....................
No f^cking idea....................

Our work Intranet Outlook has a couple of classifieds folders.
My favourite, family photo, little Johny and Mary chewing crayons, the camper, Shit everywhere, in the background.
Another one was for a boat I was interested in. Family photos, boat in the distant background.
If they can't take the time to take a photo, I'm not going to waste my time looking.

People are fkn stupid.
As Nomad has said Mark, it's not just selling campers. Some people are just plain stupid.
-
Sometimes people really don't want to sell! ;D
I had my motorbike on bikesales for top dollar and no pics. I didn't want to sell it but the Mrs was happy it was listed. 18 months later (just recently) it sold for top dollar so I was happy for it to go.

Hmm................... if it is that cheap it should be included in the agents fees, not an extra. ;D
I know, the usual $smartar$e who has no idea. At least I own up. :'(
Agree about poor presentation of campers in ads. Darwinian theory in action.

This was my massive bugbear when buying a few years ago. In the end i refused to entertain looking at a camper if the owner couldn't be arsed. You'd also be surprised how many don't have time, or refuse to set it up for inspection.
1 nice camping photo taken from 3km away and then 5 other pics of it packed up in their caport with the kids old mattress lying on top of it. With the title "Urgent Sale".

Badly advertised ones aren't that bad from my perspective, as others have said here they can't be bothered most of the time so that often can put you in a very strong bargaining position as there has been little other interest. If they are happy to sell well below market value because they can't be bothered advertising it well then it's fine by me, you just need to get good at reading between the lines to minimise the extra legwork required. Probably not so good when you are living quite remote like yourself, however.

Gumtree has to be the worst for this. Makes you wonder sometimes. All the above faults with their ads re blurry pics etc, but some are just unbelievable.
Like:
"20 inch hardly used." - (posted in miscellaneous with no pics) wtf is it? but yeah, most likely a TV.
GHD hardly used" - (no pics and posted in the electronics and computer section) My mrs tells me that it is some kind of hair grooming tool.
"Smart phone works well hardly used" - (no pics)

And $55 is a bargain!
People always undervalue photography.
They don't blink at paying $90+ /hr for a tradie, or $60 for a carton of premium beer, but God forbid having to pay money for quality photos?

I am getting ready to sell my camper, its currently taking up the entire double carport while I give it a complete going over, touch up, clean, wash, any maintenance issues that need attending too and removal of extra gear not being sold with the camper. Once that is done it will be ready for photos, at which time we will take it down to the lovely tree lined park, set it up (making sure I style it for maximum presentation) and take about a gazillion shots.
Having been looking for our next camper, I too have been amazed at how little effort people put into their description/ presentation/ photos.
My time is my own, if someone is not willing to put the effort in than either am I. Especially if the person is asking top dollar against comparable campers or even brand new.

My personal favourite
"selling a 15yo camper, no photos but a link to a website that has all the specs for the latest model camper that isn't even close to compairable"

yep agree 1000% can get some good deals and has taken years to learn when to follow up and when to walk... it fine living in a city but would be extra painful for you Mark, cant just zip over and have a look.
but the thing that really gets me is people that are trying to sell something and just wont make time for you have a look or come and purchase!

Yes being remote is a problem but looking at heading over to the East Coast around March for 3 weeks to check out a few manufacturers.

Mark the camping "super show" is on at Rosehill Sydney at the end of April. If you can wait till then you'll get all the major campers vans and hybrids in one place.

We had all intentions of going around that time but with Penny needing an operation around that time in Darwin we decided to go earlier to catch up with family and friends.

Absolutely spot on Bird.
He might have purchased it last Friday, and been told by the other half, 'It has to be gone you Idiot.'
And he might not be in any condition to wash it, after her indoors got through with him.

I'd say 'ridden twice' ... Finke Desert Race and Hattah Desert Race or Australian Safari.
