Title: Volunteers needed for Cancer Study
Post by: Fizzie on January 10, 2017, 12:34:40 PM
G'day all

Just got this of another forum.

"Received an offer to join a landmark 50 thousand person Australian cancer study. Just supply a DNA sample.

https://www.abcstudy.com.au/ (https://www.abcstudy.com.au/)

Open to 40-74 yr olds who have never been diagnosed with cancer (non-melanoma skin cancer is acceptable).

They are VERY short of men, and generally finding it tough to get to the 50 thousand person mark I was told.

Also told me if they find any potentially worrisome traits in your DNA in the following years of data crunching they would contact you to see if you wanted to know what they found."

I'm more than happy to help with research so I've just signed up & starting the questionaires.

Hopefully, one day soon, this will help them make the break-through.

Done. Took a bit but worth it if not just for an honest look at how we live.

Shame they don't want a bit younger, I'd be in. I've had a lot cut out of me too.

Yeah, when you go through & answer all those questions honestly, you do start to think about diet, booze, exercise & so on :-[

Took a good 45 mins to compete.  Very thorough. To many people close to me been struck with the big C not to contribute. Thanks Fizzie for highlighting this.

Received my letter and tape measure today.  The bride took it for her sewing kit.

Although I must say I know I need to lose some weight but 1.82cm tape measure was a bit large even for my girth.

Signed up and received the tape measure, any idea how long before the mouth swab kit comes?

Just curious.

Cheers

mouth swab kit arrived earlier this week.  Not so much a swab kit bit a tube to dribble you saliva into.

So you just dribble into a tube, you don't harvest any cells off the lining of your cheek too?
Because that's what happens when you rub the big cotton wool bud around your mouth.
