Hi
Looking to shout myself and young fella swags for Xmas. We already have the Darche 1100mm HD mattresses and was looking at getting same swag as they seem pretty good quality for around $350.00 each. I also saw 4WD Supercentre have the Adventure Kings double swag for $200.00. Some of the brands I've seen people recommend over time seem good but over $500.00. Would appreciate any info from long term swag users.

Make sure that whatever you get takes:
-The mattress you use (I've changed mine to an Exped Megamat 10XLW)
-The bedding you use
-You (in my case the size 12's are a problem as can be my shoulders when I lie on my side)
My current swag is a bit tight during the winter, but in the summer it's fine. The old one (a 3 hoop design) was marginal for my feet, whereas my current one is better in some ways.

Thanks. Yes as I'm 6'3 and 105kgs so dimensions are an issue particularly when my 13 yo is same height so lord knows how long he's going to be over the next few years. That's why that cheaper one from 4WD centre caught my eye as it's double dimensions

I had two Supacentre ones, sent both back straight away. Cheap and nasty, the customer service is horrible to boot.
I went with an MDC one, was only an extra $30 bucks at the time. Quality was much better, service was superb.

I've got a darche dirty dee 1100 swag, there's heaps of room inside of that...I actually had both my kids inside it with me at one stage and I wouldn't say we were squashed, but it was tight with 3 in there...lol. It's more like a small tent then a swag really, but when it poured rain for 4 hours last time I was in it, it was nice to have the extra space inside away from the canvas.

I've got two of the Kings (4WD super centre) ones, a double for me and SWIMBO, and a king single for #1 daughter.
The king single I think is pretty good value for money. It's cheap, but seems to work pretty well.
The double, that has the centre ridge pole, needed some tweaking to get it right. The hoop poles are flimsy and I doubt they would stand up to any mishaps. I replaced them with some fibreglass ones ($15 from BCF) which fixed that. Even with everything tensioned up, I couldn't get rid of the sag in the guts of the tent. I've added 2 extra guy ropes to the end hoops, and that fixed the issue pretty well.
Overall, the Kings $180 double swag is generally OK (once modified), the mattress is reasonable, the zips are usable (but not heavy duty), and (so far) they don't leak.
For me, I can live with the slightly inferior product because on a cost V's use ratio, it stacked up for me. If I was looking for a swag that was going to see regular use and abuse, I'd look for something a bit more robust.

Reckon I might stick with Darche 1100mm King Single as I'm impressed with quality of the matresses we got from them

I've got one of the 1100 Darche swags and can't fault it.
The supplied mattress is just okay, but a bit thin and uncomfortable for me if used on the ground.
As you already have the 1100 mattress, I would recommend the swag.
I also have their 1000 wide stretcher, and a 900 wide self inflating mattress. Roomy, comfy, and up off the ground.
The mattress is good just on the stretcher without the swag if you are in a tent (or at someone's house).

Just ordered 2 of these and got a good price.

We have three Adventure Kings swags and i reckon they are great. Used them a few times now and no complaints here Dave.

I have a crashpad stealth swag, https://crashpadgear.com/product-category/swags/
Top quality swag, canvas is excellent. From the thickness of the flex aluminium poles, the rope used and the mattress all exceptional quality. Throw in your sleeping bag and pillow, swag rolls up easy into the canvas bag.
I have a Roo Systems double swag also, made by darche, very similar to the darche dusk to dawn swags, the crashpad swag beats it handsdown.

Hello mate,
Do you use this on a stretcher ? Just getting soft & looking for a quality swag to use on a stretcher.

Hey Ray,
I don't use the swag on a stretcher, its the most comfortable swag I've ever slept in. In saying that, I can't see any reason why you couldn't put it on a stretcher.
Cheers

Any dome type swag should work pretty well on a stretcher. It's probably best if the swag hangs a tiny bit over the edges, so rain runs off rather than between the swag and the stretcher. I use an 1100 wide one on a 1000 wide stretcher. Works well.
One trick I came up with, is using an awning bow from a roof top tent to hold the end awning out rather than having to use a rope and peg. Means you can move the whole thing easily and there's less chance of falling on your face from tripping over the ropes. In my case, the bow is from a Darche tent, and it pokes into a hole that's in the plate where the legs hinge on the darche stretcher.

Thanks for that.
When down in Vic in a couple of weeks might go for a drive to Ballarat.

Went across to Ballarat to have a look at the Crashpad gear & came back with a swag & sleeping bag. They look to be the gear. Be a few weeks before I start using them in earnest. Thursday pick up a tray & dump the tub then build a canopy.

I bought a single Dune swag earlier this year off gumtree hardly used but then i thought about my dog that usual comes with me when the family doesnt, off gumtree again i picked up a kings double swag for $40 hardly used but owner had lost the poles. A couple of poles from BCF and now just a centre pole to rig it it will do me for the times i dont take the trailer.
-
Look seriously at a center pole dome. Plenty of room and you can screw that peg and rope business. Pick it up by the center pole and move it around if you like. Also look into whether you prefer pvc or canvas base. I would only go PVC if you plan to plonk it on wet ground.

Great decision Ray, you won't be disappointed.
Did you buy the crashpad sleep system? I have one, it's bloody awesome to sleep in, after I purchased mine, I slept in it for a month it was that comfy.
Cheers

Yes mate got the sleep system. I will be spending a lot of time in it & I liked the way it is set up to cope with different conditions. The mattress they had in their display swag was about 50 mm but the one in the swag is now 90mm. Sheer luxury.
