Title: GME TX3420 UHF Problem
Post by: Trevdeb on November 27, 2016, 08:17:33 PM
Hi all,
I have a gme tx3420 with the controls on the hand piece, up the Brindabells yesterday and could hear people clear as, however I could not transmit, testing today worked ok, then 10 mins ago not transmitting again all along I could receive strong signals,
Could this be a loose wire or maybe the PTT button ?
There are no troubleshooting hints in the gme manual

Thanks in advance

Trevdeb

I had the same problems with my gme some time ago and found it was the wire at the base of the aerial.

on mine there is a nut under the aerial on top of the 300mm long chrome post that was loose.

May be worth a try.

As Banksy69 said, check the aerial. You can receive on a coat hanger but not transmit.

Related to the aerial is the plug on the end of the coax that goes into the radio. If this has been installed manually (rather than from the factory) then it could be shorted or the centre conductor isn't making contact with the pin.

Unlikely to be the output stage. It was an occasional problem in the 3000 series but isn't intermittent. My 3450 was DOA.

I've had gme radios fail to transmitt on 2 different set across 2 different cars. First one was as has been mentioned above - part of the internal chip got fried. Car got written off before if could get it fixed. I couldn't be bothered fixing it in the second radio that failed and I just replaced it with an icom

Ok, you learn something every day, it is a broken wire in the antenna, with my swag help and the local roof rack city fella pulled it apart today, solder her up in the next day or so and see how we go.

As I was receiving strong signal I did not give the antenna a thought

Thanks all
