I'm in Melb for the weekend and wondering if Craigs Hut is open this weekend?
-
Looks like it's open http://parkweb.vic.gov.au/safety/closures/seasonal-road-closures2 (http://parkweb.vic.gov.au/safety/closures/seasonal-road-closures2)

Pretty sure BigSteve was up there on the weekend. He may come along and comment soon.

Yep open. South of Telegraph Junction on Circuit towards Bindaree was closed due to a land slide, could use Corn Hill from Buller instead. East of Pineapple on King Basin rd was blocked by a tree, but passable with care.
The view was a bit average on Sunday

But in typical High Country fashion cleared up for a great weekend

Otherwise most tracks were open.

Yep - its open, the view was much better on Monday. Still some snow left left amongst the trees near the carpark.

On Sunday the bonnet on the Paj was too long cause we couldn't see the bull bar for the fog  Glad Big Steve got a clear shot ??? :cup:

Small world, so we're we. We were there around lunch time, then went down to Pineapple Flat for a look.

Probably saw you up at Craig's. We had lunch near the bbq and then back to Pineapple where we stayed (out of the wind). White 200 series and black Prado.

Hi
Just looking at the 2nd photo and it looks like a caravan in the background.
I haven't been up that way for a good 20 years so wondering if things have changed such that a caravan can be towed to lots of places inc Craig's Hut. Is that now so?
I'm asking because some friends (D22 Navara and single axle van) would like to go to High Country but I had told them it wasn't suitable for towing. Has this all changed?
Cheers

The second picture was taken at pineapple flat. The road in its usually doable in a 2wd with decent clearance, but you do have to cross a river just before the camp and this can be deep at times and the exit is a bit cut up at the moment. Last weekend the river was just above the wheel arch on a lifted 200 series, dropped a bit by Tuesday.
Mate pulled a Goldstream through with a Prado after a couple of attempts at the exit. A navara without snorkel nearly downed, engine cut out and wouldn't start for 5 mins, eventually got going again.
I have towed an off-road camper to Craigs, a van might be pushing it.

few years ago there was a bloke in a Tarago and a Mitz Lancer at the hut.. you'd get a van in there backwards.
