Title: Qld boating rules. Answered. But now with pictures.
Post by: me217 on September 27, 2016, 08:39:14 PM
Hey all. Yet wondering what I need to carry in my little camper topper tinny. It's only a 4HP. So it doesn't need rego.
Life jackets will be worn at all times when onboard.
The boat is a 10foot punt.

Depends where you use it- smooth waters i presume and being a topper you wont need a epirb.
Make sure you have a capacity label.

Guess you wouldn't have a 2-way radio of any kind either, so definitely the phone number for your local VMR / Coastguard Unit!

Here is a link to marine safety Qld... what you are required to carry on board may be related to the Kw Output of the motor.

After downloading the Queensland boating. PDF. The only thing I legally need to carry is a signalling device if after dark. But of coarse I'm not going to disregard all safety gear though.

Give them a ring & see if they monitor UHF - most Squadrons are only VHF & 27mhz, with some also on HF. They're all perfectly happy for you to check in by phone though - although small boats & phones aren't a good mix  :'(

got it all sorted now thanks everyone.  took the boat for its maiden voyage today, after a small breakdown (shear pin). i got it give it a good run. now its no speed demon, not that i expected it to be with a big block 4hp on it, but with careful positioning of weight. (told my daughter to sit further foward.) it managed to wind up to get on the plane and then it got some decent speed to it for a little tinny. at a guess around 12 knots. and of coarse  :worthles: so here they are.
