G,Day all Sydney locals and people that transit in and around Sydney ..
I have to get to the BMA House [ Circular quay end of Macquarie st I believe ] for a medical on friday the 9th of sept .. Would anyone have advice as to the quickest / best way from the Airport to the Quay end of that street ?? I havent been into Sydney since 1985 and thinking things may have changed a little ;D
Thanks in advance for the ideas ..

you can catch the airport train, might mean a change at central to get to circular quay station, short walk up the hill frm there
or
a city bus from central will probably go to the door
go to www.transportnsw.info (http://www.transportnsw.info) for accurate help

not 100% sure but train from Airport to Quay
-
Beaten to it, but I'll post it anyway........Probably easiest to get the train. There's a station under the domestic airport terminal and that'll get you to Circular Quay on 20 minutes and probably cost about $4. A cab will take longer and cost considerably more.

Ok thanks all. Train it is

Or try $15.76 and needs an Opal card... the problem is the station access fee of $13! Never mind how to get an Opal card... it's another thing on the list of reasons for me not to go Sydney... that and needing a ePass or whatever for the tolls on the road (luckily I can get to where I want to go without going on the Toll roads)

.... probably cost about $4.
thats the 1985 price!

Edit: found that opal card thingy on the travel site [ will go to our RTA tomorrow and get one ] .. Cost is $15:76 Airport to the quay and $16:38 to return back to the Airport ..[ Train T2 ]... aprox 20 mins into the city and aprox 17 to return if they run on time ..
Hey PD what was that $13 cost for I couldnt find a reference to it on the travel NSW site .
-
Soooo whats this opal card, can you get it there and then ? is that one way or return $$ prices
That's one way... and fooked if I know how to get an Opal card.

That is literally the building behind my office. Train from airport to Circular quay and walk up the hill. Otherwise Martin Place, but you are changing trains at Central/Town Hall.
Taxi will be about $35 ($50 if you get caught in peak hour)
Train will be cheaper unless you have a travel companion - $14 each person each way....
Paper tickets are no longer sold since 1 August. but you get single trip Opal card for $14 from the vending machines (might need a card rather than cash to pay) - Which looks like a paper ticket with the word Opal written on it. Just tap on when you get on and tap off when you get off.

If you're up for it I could try and sneak you up to our top floor for an awesome view of Sydney

That's almost funny. Costs me less than that for a return from Macarthur going through the airport stations. How do they get away with that?

Station Access Fee....
Airport owned by Macquarie Bank. The millionaires factory...

You can get a single use opal card at the station. Will save you getting an opal card putting money on it etc.
Been at the Wynyard station upgrade for sometime now and help so many lost souls each day find their way

It would be nice, Thanks for the offer TK, but Im thinking Im going to be pushed for time .. I have no control over my flight travel times as its in the hands of a Work Cover insurance company and lets just say I'm not exactly their favourite person ATM ... I won they lost .

Congrats on the win Edz :cup:
You'd have to wonder though (& you probably have!), why they'd fly you to Sydney to see a Doc rather than just coming up to the GC, or even Brisvegas ???
Pretty sure that we've got the same Specialists up here that they do down there! :D

Train is the go.
The train from airport is easy to Circular Quay. Costs about $15 and as stated you can easily buy a one use ticket at the station.
I don't know what is being made up about the $13 access fee? That just does not exist. This trip is more expensive than other comparable train trips because the airport line is privately built and owned. Still FAR cheaper and easier than any other options.

Because when you get the ticket price from the NSW transport website it says "includes $13 station access fee"

"If you take the train to or from the Sydney Domestic or International Airport, you will need to pay an additional station access fee to go through the ticket gates at the airport train stations...Station access fee Adult - A$13.40 (+ train fare)"
http://www.transportnsw.info/en/tickets/tickets-opal-fares/airport-link.page (http://www.transportnsw.info/en/tickets/tickets-opal-fares/airport-link.page)
The Sydney Domestic Airport train station and Sydney International Airport train station are both privately-owned by the Airport Link Company, but the line is not. But the government creams some of that money via a revenue sharing agreement
"But because of a revenue sharing agreement with the station operators, the state government will be pocketing $4 million a month from these access fees by August, according to information provided to the committee by Airport Link Company." http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/nsw-government-set-to-pocket-1m-a-week-from-airport-rail-link-20140226-33i9f.html (http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/nsw-government-set-to-pocket-1m-a-week-from-airport-rail-link-20140226-33i9f.html)
And it's not the cheapest way to travel . When I lived in Newtown the cab was cheaper than a train. Airport to city is $14 one way. ($28 Return per person). Have 2 people and it's $28, family of four and it's $56. A single cab journey is about $35 so as soon as you have more than one passenger the cab becomes cheaper to a city destination

It would probably take you too long in this case but if it is likely to happen again, run for Parliament and then misuse your entitlements on a helicopter, followed by a visit to a taxpayer funded bordello.
Not that I am hinting you are the type of sleazy character to do that.
Other than that I can't help, sorry.

Simple, as they only want to deal with those that they have business relationships with and generally in the capital city of that state. They couldn't care less how far you have to travel In fact it is in their best interest to make it as hard as possible for you because if you don't attend etc then they can wipe you as not participating

Thanks for all the info about the train and etc, Finaly received flight times and a travel allowance [ bonus :D ] ..
Look out Sydney here I come, If all goes to schedule I will be lowering property values in Sydney from 11.40 am once I have landed ;D
Then its train to the quay and a wander off up around the corner to Macquarie st ..
Is there anything I should be aware of on the walk from the quay ?? .. God botherers, out of control accountants, groups of viscious girl guides etc .. Do I need to put my scary face on ;D
-
There's always some weirdo offering free hugs......
Seriously, I'm not kidding, just some dude who hugs people for free at the quay............
Disturbing yes, but it is Sydney!!!
Also if you get past all the idiots chasing freakin Pokeyourmums you'll then have to deal with the tourists taking happy snaps.
Enjoy, the view are good though and plenty of good places to eat.
Are you going to be staying anywhere exciting?
-
Hey Briann,
No mate, Just a flying visit for a medical assessment [ guessing that could get exciting, Eeek ] after lunch and then try to get back to the airport in enough time for a 6 pm return flight home ..
The weirdo offering free hugs sounds like he might be a pick pocket to me ..

Free hugs,

Marvelous how easily people can be conned when in a crowd setting.

Caught that airport train a few weeks back Edz, through to Wynyard, but it goes through the Quay. As said its the best way, though I often take a taxi as well, but the train seems quicker. The hardest part is finding the right platform at the airport, depending on what terminal you arrive at. So my tip, do some homework on the platform location in relation to your landing gate. Gotta say, Sydney commuters seem a friendly lot. Last trip there returning to the airport on the train, there was a great conversation between the dozen or so of us in that section on the Brexit vote. Good ol' Adelaidian's treat everyone on public transport as second class citizens, being the 20 minutes city and all that, and wouldn't even make eye contact let alone converse.
Cheers and hope your appointment goes well mate.

Corner of Bridge and Phillip (one over from Macquarie) is the Sydney Museum (site of the first government house). In the courtyard out the front is a raised box thingy with a glass front. Looks down into the foundations and covered drains dated to the late 1790s and brick barrel drains dated to circa 1811 and another to circa 1828. Interesting for about 2 minutes.
Its that raised triangle thing in this photo http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/maritimeheritageapp/resources/Heritage/shi/504/5045710b4.jpg (http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/maritimeheritageapp/resources/Heritage/shi/504/5045710b4.jpg)

Got lucky there mate.
I lived in Sydney for 5 years and not that I used public transport all that often, but on the rear occasion that I did I can't say that I ever had much of a conversation with my fellow travelers.
My usual trip was from from Parramatta to the City and it was like a transcontinental trip, felt like I was crossing from Mumbai to Shanghai (with a detour to Lebanon somewhere in between).
Eye contact was rare and conversation even less so.
Though in saying that, short trips around the city did have a better 'feel' to me.
*No racist intentions in this post, just a personal observation.

No I am harmless and I use deodorant. I am not a pick pocket but I will go the grope if you are a good sort.
