Seriously thinking of going to Moreton Island later this year (first time).
I have a fairly heavy soft floor camper (Central Coast Camper) that I would like to take as I will need it for trip back down the coast to Sydney as I will be stopping at several locations.
I tow the trailer with a Nissan Patrol (4.2 turbo).
What are fellow swaggers thoughts on taking the trailer onto Moreton Island ?

Moreton is beautiful, definitely add it to your itinerary, just be prepated for $$$ barge fees.
No worries at all wuth a camper, just the usual with tyre pressures etc.
Ive only towed on the western beach, Cowan Cowan cutting can be a bit soft as well as Cowen to Bulwar high tide bypass track, but you shouldn't have any dramas.

It depends a bit on the conditions - if it is hot and dry and you are travelling in the middle of the day then you will have 100x more trouble than if it has recently rained and/or you're travelling in the early morning.

Have been to Moreton heaps and taken the trailer a couple of times. It's just like anywhere else with sand, if you are prepared then you will have no dramas. Too make it easier try and book your barge to arrive on a falling tide as getting off the ferry can sometimes be a challenge if there isn't much beach.
An hour or two before is perfect as this will give you more beach to turn up onto the middle track over to the eastern beach. Once on the middle track it's quite easy going with only a few soft spots then when you get to the other side you should have loads of firm sand to make your way to the best beach camping.
Once you get to the camping area just pick an entry that looks firm and once your behind the dunes you can drive a fair way to pic your spot.
Don't let the price put you off its well worth it and also helps keep the Shitbags away.

Thanks buddy. I hope to be relaxing in the sun, the occasional beer and some fishing. This is on top of having a fun time with the wife and some good friends.

I agree, you'll be fine. The Cowen by pass track can be soft.
Make sure you take the actual bypass track. We made the mistake of driving right down to where the beach is closed at Cowen then taking that second track. It's a sharp right hand turn and isn't much fun with the trailer.
And yes. Definitely watch is the tides the barge arrives and departs. They'll dump you off regardless how much beach is available to drive on.

My friends are talking about setting up camp on the western side of island. Will this make any difference and is there plenty of room to set up away from the beach.
Sorry about silly questions but just asking the experts that have been there with their campers. If you don't ask you will never learn.
