Title: Big Red Bash
Post by: Julian Kaye on July 16, 2016, 08:11:42 AM

Just back from the BRB and 5,500 associated kms. Got info from one of the Birdsville locals that the concert was moved from Big Red to Birdsville because the property owner jacked up at the 6000-7000 tickets being sold. They would only accept 5000 absolute maximum. We travelled out to Big Red twice during the week and the road was pretty good. The concerts were just OK, Jimmy Barnes performed like he wanted to get out of the place as fast as possible. Birdsville in July is way too cold for concerts finishing at 9.30pm.

Yeh that seems to be the general consensus. Any pics to share?

I was there too. Camped near someone who had helped out with the big red run the week prior and he said out at the bash site you grew an inch taller with each step you took from the mud that stuck to the bottom of your boots.  And it would not have been possible to set up the event before it dried out. What a difference a week makes because it was dry by the time the crowd rolled in, just a few days short of making it possible.

I agree about the music, they needed to turn the volume up!!! Sitting at the back of the oval was like having the stereo on in the background at home.

In the end it may have been possible for the event to be held at Big Red, but there was a chance of rain predicted for the Monday. As it turned out it was only a few spots, but the organisers could not take that chance. Even a few mm would have make conditions impossible.

We were there was as well and have to say as disapointed as i was at the venue change , we had a great time. i don't think there was any chance of having it out at big red ,the ground was still pretty damp underneath. I do agree with the comments about the times and Barnsey which is a shame i have been a fan for decades , i think the old boy is past it. As far as the rest i thought it was pretty good and we will going back next year.
