I have a Webasto diesel heater in the camper which provides hot water but also heating into the cabin area.
For anyone that owns one, they make quite a noise when starting up, but also a 'click' from the pump while running.
We are planning to go to the National meet next year and spend some time in Vic. My expectation is that the cabin heater will be needed.
For anyone that has the Webasto setup, do you know of any tricks to quiten the noise and the clicks ? I have looked on the web but not finding much.

Best idea is to park a lot further away for Swaggers that want to sleep peacefully . lt might still be summer for the National meet ,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Mark you might not make it down as Most of QLD is a swamp about now ,,,,.

Geoff, your probably right....when you are used to...warm...sunny...weather virtually all year round (occasional bit of rain)...you do get a little spoilt and used to the 'warmer' things in life..... ;D ;D

It's ok Speewa, the warmer weather would have dried it out by then.....

It's only loud when the surrounding are quiet. When we run ours at places like Cape Conran during the day for showers where there are trees/surf/people it's hardly noticeable. At Knockwood last month, on the foggy 3 degree morning it was embarrassingly loud (but beautifully warm).
It's basically a diesel powered jet engine. The exhaust has a small muffler. Perhaps a bigger one would help but what and where to get one I don't know.
The fuel pump is external so could be insulated to reduce the clicking sound.
In the end it is what it is. Pick the times you run it is my conclusion.

The clicking doesn't bother me, a small price to pay for a toasty warm camper trailer go sleep in, but I get that some people would get annoyed by it. The spooling up like noise it makes on start up used to annoy me, then I realised if I crank the temperature setting up a touch more the heater runs all night without cutting in and out on the thermostat setting. The noise you mention exists on mine, I try and set my camper up so the exhaust doesn't point towards other campers, you can usually hear it close up at night, but once you get about 10mtrs from the camper it's barely noticeable.

Yep.......but hang on swannie aren't you one of those tough arse Mexicans? Like speewa and Geoff? I thought the heaters were only for us softcock northerners ?
I was in ballan region last weekend and am still thawing out, ffs it's stupid cold down there?

I've heard people isolate the pump mounts to stop the ticking transferring through the body ?

If yours is like mine the thermotop produces that much heat that it always cycles on and off so setting
the thermostat to a higher setting is not an option. Rubber mounts and have lengths of rubber pipe at
the inlet and outlet of the pump and don't secure these to close to the pump. I also seem to remember
seeing a cover you could put over the pump somewhere, probably on an overseas site.

Drink alot of beer and let the wind flow. It will keep you warm but you would need a gas mask.

Hi,
I isolated the pump by mounting it on a piece of cork to deaden the sound.
As mentioned previously, you can set the heat setting so that it keeps running at a quiet speed and does not stop and then spool up to full speed when it detects the cooler air.
The sound only travels about 5 on a still night.
Last weekend, camped in snow, I only ran it to get into bed, (pre warm the jarmies) and to get up in the morning for breakfast. It only got to -4 though.
Cheers

Don't have one yet but the only thing I have to add that no one else hasn't yet is I have read that intake silencers can make a difference.
