Hi, can one still buy an ostrich awning in Australia? I try to search for the webSite but found nothing.
Thanks
-
We just bought this one from Drifta
http://www.drifta.com.au/rhs-drifta-rapid-wing-270-deg-awning/ (http://www.drifta.com.au/rhs-drifta-rapid-wing-270-deg-awning/)
Something like what you are after?

No you cant buy a new one from a retail shop. Very messy with patent infringements. Was schooled on this at the caravan and camping show.

Yes, I am after a 270 degree awning that does not require poles, similar to the Hanibal awnings. The Ostrich would be perfect.

PWE,
Check out Cruiser Customs at Brendale. Karl made my cargo draws which are excellent. I know he does make an awning which fits your description. No affiliation just had a great experience with him. Facebook page has some good photos.
Cheers

I actually thought this one a little better, but just my thoughts- still saving

why don't people have prices on things, or if they do, why are they so ****ing hard to find?

around $1200 when I enquired earlier this year
they recommend that you use their brackets for a few $$$ more
they paranoid about how it is mounted, obviously weighs a bit and needs a solid platform.

cheers dude.
so with brackets, nearly double the foxwing??

I looked at the Alu cab ones at the show. Awesome product but just too big 2.4m long.

$645 on nastybay

Why don't you support and Australian company http://www.supapeg.com.au/ (http://www.supapeg.com.au/)

We were after similar, no luck for what we wanted so opted for the Drifta as the legs are built in, just unclip and drop them down as you unfold the awning. Much better than having to carry separate poles, ropes etc. Bonus was he designed the RHS version for the FJ Cruiser so works well with the rear door opening etc.

Or evilbay

$1,095AUD
-
I understand his wing would create some good shade but how do you get the bugger to stay still
-
The blurb in the evilbay page says, point the vehicle into the wind and the shape will stabilize the wing,
also survives wind speeds up to 20Klm/h. without using poles and ropes.
There appear to be twist lock poles incorporated in the design, mounted on the underside.

Anyone know about these

The Skywing Awning is a brilliantly designed 1 piece, easy to operate, swing out awning that will shade the side and rear of your vehicle in seconds. The simple to operate one piece Left Side Mounted swing out Skywing Awning will shade the passenger side and rear of your vehicle and protect you from the elements.
$400......
-
what about something to mount on the Drivers side? In a fox wing style.
-
You can get RHS Foxwings, they are much cheaper than LHS as nobody wants them - or did 2 yrs ago
Southern Cross do a std awning too, didn't know that.

Yeah Bird I know they did 2 years ago from what I can see they have stopped which is unfortunate for me.
-
How do you get the Ostrich to stand still and are their feathers waterproof ?
-

Drifta do a RHS fox wing style. We bought this one as it suits the FJ Cruiser due to the direction the rear door opens.

Got the Rhino Rack platform with backbone fitted today, awning will go no next week ;D

Exactly.
The Supa-Pegwing wing awnings do have support poles, and structurally that makes sense to me.
Anyway I've recently purchased one of these .......
(http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/OTAwWDkwMA==/z/4hkAAOxy-8pSZe~c/$(KGrHqNHJDMFDPdmc!qDBSZe+bu1UQ~~60_35.JPG)
Its the grouse I tells ya.
-
I still cant believe the price of awnings... I would have thought they'd be down to $200 by now.
I know I paid $200 for mine from place next to Mansfield BP - and they said 'drive round the back and we will fit it for you'...
cant ask for more than that!

yep his gear is quality, but for memory his awnings with no poles are up near $2500.
I have a foxwing, yes it has poles but it is stable. Even the ones with no poles recommend poles in high winds, so if you are at the beach i would recommend poles anyway which kind of defeats the purpose as most people use the awnings at the beach.
I got my foxwing recently from these guys, $670 brand new cant complain!!

I enquired about an Ostrich Wing awning around the start of the year and was told that the importer had become very strict with the sale of the awnings. Only warranting the awning if it was installed to her strict standards. Apparently there had been a few come back for warranty work where they'd been damaged as a result of incorrect installation. Price was $1600 plus fitting.
I spoke with Alucab at the same time about their Shadow Awn. They had a show special of about $1250, plus a hundred and something for delivery to Brisbane, plus a hundred and something for their special bracket to fit my roof rack. I enquired about it again a few weeks ago but was told they couldn't do that price any longer, and the new price was $1450 (i think). I was advised i could get one from the Nambour Show and save on delivery.

Hiya bird. I have a LH fox wing and have had it about 4 years. Yes it was cheaper. Why are they cheaper? At the time was a PITA as my RTT was set up to open to the left but now fine as the camper awning is to the left and it seems to make sense. Just curious.

Nobody wanted the right hand side (Drivers) ones...

My next awning will be on drivers side

Just fitted our RHS Drifta awning on the FJ. Love the quality and ease of set up!! Legs are built in so you just unclip them from each roof arm and lower them as you unfold it.
-
Should still be able to get the Ostrich Wing thru the WA agent. Absolutely love mine alot better than my brothers Foxwing.
