Title: Lost............Sunshine Coast
Post by: Nomad on March 10, 2016, 06:34:08 PM
Total longshot but much stranger things have happened on this forum.

This is the add I just posted in the Sunshine Coast Daily.

Lost. Men's 18 ct White Gold Wedding Ring. Last seen falling below the water about 50 metres north of the corner at Dog Beach, Noosa. If your good with a metal detector I am happy to pay the full retail value of the ring, circa $800. Please feel free to contact me on
0418 780 333 if you want more detailed directions.

Cheers Nomad........now to tell swmbo'd and cop a verbal flogging........

Funny thing was my 8 year old son was with me and asked if I was still married if I lost my ring.......If only my boy if only. LOL

To tell you the truth I am totally surprised I haven't lost it beforehand. I have nearly lost it a few times in big surf here and the Mentawais, it even fell off once in the water over there but it wedged in a bit of reef so a snorkel and ten minutes later I had it back.

Problem today was the river was running fast and I couldn't tell if it buried or got swept away.
Bummer!

That's one item I won't be losing anytime soon from my body, because I have no idea where my wedding ring actually is at the moment. I gave it to the misses years ago as it was getting destroyed at work (covered in concrete and generally getting beat up), no idea where she's put it though.
Hope you get the miracle you are after, and somehow manage to get it back Nomad.

Whoever finds it, will have some wicked negotiation power me thinks.

I reckon you'd cough up $2,000, which would still be worth it to avoid the verbal joisting match that inevitably occur once you fess up.

Good luck, ya gunna need it.

We took our daughter and kids camping up at Somerset Dam a few months ago and while she was swimming in a metre of water, she lost her wedding ring as well. It was a 5th generation heirloom
She stood still while we spent almost an hour diving all around her but no luck.  Finally we all gave up, resigned to never seeing it again
Anyway, her 11yo son says" What's it worth if I find it?"
Daughter says he can use the play station all day and all night for the rest of the holidays at home
He puts on goggles and 20mins later he finds the bloody thing!
No idea how in the murky water let alone finding the exact area where she lost it
Now he gets called "Lord Of The Ring"
All happy for the rest of the trip.  And he did spend 25hrs straight on the PS when we went home

I guess all I'm saying after all that is
Don't give up!

Cheers

Times have changed and so has the price of gold. Mine is 9ct gold and cost $18 in 1974.

In a drawer somewhere. Not been required since 2004. Might be worth $50 now.

Little off subject and sorry to hijack, but one day I dropped a Staun tyre deflator in the car. Like you I searched high and low and couldn't find it. Feeling frustrated because I knew it was in the car I got the torch out and looked in the handbrake hole and there it was. That was a mission to get it out seeing the hole is about the size of a Staun.

Yeah I think mine was about $400 10 years ago. Repriced one today and it was going to set me back $1200 ish........

I went back to the beach today with a snorkel but couldn't see it......might go down the pawn shop and see if there is any going cheap because I know if I buy a new one the old one will turn up.

Just to shut this thread down..................

Well a couple of weeks after losing it I saw a lady on the beach with a detector, she was a professional with a waterproof / submersible detector.

I told her about where I lost it and she told me if she finds it she charges $150.......
I get an email about 7.00pm that night saying she had found it and will drive it up from her house at Twin Waters tomorrow morning.

Hows that for luck!

Result!

I'm on my second because I gave my first to my wife to look after because the surf was a bit rough. (She was sitting on the beach with the 8mth old).  Guess what happened?

I am never allowed to mention it again or my replacement ring  will no longer be needed....

Lucky you.
Are you now allowed back into the house again?  ;D

I am allowed back in the house again thankfully.......

It was weird though, I didn't get to stressed about it as I had this feeling in the back of my mind that I would get it back somehow.

That's good stuff eh?
As an interesting side note, the woman, if she is a professional, may have said something like; she charges to search for your item. Because if she just finds it and keeps it, without making reasonable attempts to return it to it's rightful owner, she can possibly get done for "theft by finding". ie. she finds it, without making an agreement to charge for searching, then says she isn't giving it back till you pay the money. Even so, $150 is cheap for the return eh.
