Hi All,
I am wondering what people do to secure their trailer and the items in it at camp when they go out for a few hours. I am particularly interested in whether people close up the trailer kitchen so that no one can access the inside of the trailer (side fold rear swing out kitchen) or if you just leave it open and hope for the best?
I do padlock the zip to the tent but really that will only keep the honest thieves out I guess.
Any tips welcome.

Put electronics and other valuables into the vehicle, otherwise don't really worry. They are welcome to steal my worn undies ;D
Seriously, the only thing of value left is the fridge and it's content, and that is put into the tent out of sight, so if a lowlife comes looking someone else's campsite might look more attractive.

Only thing I've bothered locking so far is the fridge to the camper, but I'm pretty sure an Allen key would take the handle off the fridge. Usually put the valuables like wallet and phones etc in the car if we are leaving the tent for a bit, sometimes they just get hidden away a bit. Like above, it's really only stopping the opportunistic thief. If they want it that bad I'd rather they took it relatively easily, and not smash everything up trying to get it.

Smith and Wesson make a really good alarm system for campers.
So do Browning and Winchester.......
Serious side now..... (hard for me...)
We just lock anything of value in the car so its not visible.
Generally most petty thieves are opportunists. If its too hard they'll move along.
Had our esky and fridge raided for booze a few times, but never anything serious.
Best thing to do is make friends with your fellow campers. Mates look out for mates!
A few beers shared goes a long way for enjoyment too.

My sister-in law was asleep with her 3 and 10 year old in the middle of the day in their Jayco at a popular caravan park in Port Lincoln whilst hubby had gone fishing. A local fella of Aboriginal descent walk in and stole her purse which was on the cooker right next to her. She did notice someone coming and thought it was hubby.
The fella was caught in the act 2hrs later after he been through a number of vans and campers.

Yep cruisers on the money.
If you drive a jacked up hilux and want my aerial you've got two hours cleaning to get the cats arse of it, same with the sac hangin off the back.

These battery powered security alarms would suit you. I had one similar to this in an outdoor shed a while back. It comes with a remote control to turn it on/off. They make a lot of noise when activated and would scare a would be thief off. You could easily set it up somewhere in the tent or on the tailgate of your CT. Set it with the remote as you leave and it will watch your property.
Specifications Are:

Robbo, how sensitive are they?
Would they be set off by canvas flapping, or the tent wall moving in the wind, or, even better, the possums scurrying around!?

They are quite sensitive, however they are for indoor use only so if you put it somewhere within your tent and closed it up before you went out you should be ok. Once you have set it with your remote, you have a short period of time to get out and close up the tent or building etc. Upon your return, you have a short time delay once entering to turn it off or it will go off. If it has been activated, it goes for a set time, eg. two minutes, then if all is clear it resets itself again. It produces a very loud and piercing noise and i don't think a would be intruder would hang around. You could'nt have a cat or dog in your tent as they would set it off. As long as it's a PIR (passive-infra-red) which activates on rapid temperature change, (detection of body temperature etc) it should only detect an intruder. Movement sensors use microwave technology, which, if used, would activate to a tent flapping in the wind.

I suggested to Engels some time ago that their fridges should have a lock attachment built into case, as most of us only lock onto the handle. Phillips head screws and it's gone

Wouldn't it be pretty easy on an Engel to just rivet in a plate for the cable to attach to? One big advantage of having a tin sided fridge over the plastic used by most of the rest of the industry.

We don't do a single thing for security. We don't leave anything valuable at camp except for solar panels, and they are that popular now, I figure if some scum bag wanted one, they would probably pick a nicer one than mine ??
All depends on where you camp....van parks are the worst(some) and remote bush camping the best.

Agree Ben yes it is easy to do that damn good selling point if it's built in though, simple part of pressing it when in factory process.
