Title: Evakool Warranty/Service
Post by: tryagain on December 29, 2015, 09:26:45 AM
Looking at fridges and Evakools 5 year warranty is a plus but on closer inspection you have too have your fridge serviced after the first 2 years and then every year there after for the warranty. Has anybody had these services done and know roughly how much they cost?

The servicing condition no longer applies.  Straight 5 year warranty now.  If you need to confirm, phone EvaKool

5 years for the fibreglass [RF] and Fridgemate [FM] only.

All the others only 2 years.

Yeah looking at the FM70 that I can get for $890 with the 240v adapter, it a good price just deciding if its the best use of available funds at the moment.

Good to know the change. Wasn't the case when I got my rf60 18 months ago. At the time I looked into it and the nearest service agent was an hour away

To my knowledge the change is retrospective.  You are covered.

I wonder what is done when serviced as I got my RF60 in 1999 and never touched it since but works perfectly. Actually just got a coldie out of it just now ; )

As a guess only,
I would thinks a general cleaning the dust buildup off all
Components & wiring/connection checks
Cheers

I name and shame myself as having lived a life of completely ignoring my fridges until they stop. Only then does the archaelogical digging begin to unearth wondrous ancient leftovers and mystery jars and containers and ice age specimens before the task of assessing the underlying problem can begin.

My RF60's now just over 10 years old and that's all I've ever done myself.  Every year or 2, 4 screws to undo the the cover and clean out the insides with an air blower.  There's not much to an Evakool, so if it's working, other than cleaning I'm not sure what they'd do in a service?

Hasn't all been roses with my Evakool.  About 3 years ago it stopped working while camping. About 15 minutes of testing with a multimeter and I worked out it was the mechanical thermostat.  It doesn't appear to be a serviceable part, but with a bit of patience you can carefully pry apart the thermostat housing and clean the contacts with a points file.  Works a treat and haven't touched it since.
