Post by: weeds on December 28, 2015, 08:25:10 PM
- Brand new Colorado on tilt bed in Rainbow
- Burnt out hard floor flat-bedded, unsure of brand, entire camper burnt
- Dual cab flat-bedded
- Dual cab stuffed his engine trying to get his camper into a spot two up from us......I wasn't surprised given how he approached it all....still feel for him and his family, thought way to start a holiday, this happen last night, it was still parked halfway up the dune this morning and not firing
- Pajero blown clutch.....waiting for assistance.

- Firefox abandoned his caravan.....200 gone, tents gone, awning gone....just the van locked up tight.....don't worry Justin the can was still in one piece when we drove past at 12:30pm ish.

- oh and numerous Marques twisted and bent this morning after the 100 knot wind storm last night.....including our Event 14 (I think our can be saved)

The wind hasn't backed off all day here.

Pretty blowy up here at Bargara on the water too.

I saw at least one coming off on a flat bed during my week at Northshore.

Family in a dual cab tray back loaded with a heavy camper.....looked like it had a big toe ball weight and along with the load on the tray it looked like a V......

Full tide with a dozen deep ruts.......

He was traveling with another family in a F Truck.......

The ute was struggling in the soft sand, it was on its limits trying to do a U-turn and got bogged twice....this is on the flat, than he attempts to drive up the access between the dunes gets bogged than lowers his tyre pressures (no tyre gauge in site and by the length of time at each wheel they were not lowered a great deal)....it wasn't going to happen from here.....after about 30 min of this poor little car on its rev limiter it gave up......they got my attention back when we could smell the engine and the ladies telling out stop as the F-Truck was trying to drag the ute and trailer into the campsite.......

With the ute dead they towed the trailer in the the F-truck, even this was a struggle and the F-truck had to lower tyre pressures.

I drove up the same cutting eight days earlier......sure the ruts were not as bad or as many and it wasn't as cut up/soft.......but at least had my tyre a lowered to 20psi from before I entered the beach and position myself for the approach. Would i have made it up when these guys tried????....I'm not sure, I do know if I got bogged twice doing u-turns that would have deterred me as it was only going to get tougher. I would have went an extra 100m north and taken an easier exit and driven through a campsite (this is what the f-truck did in the end).......or I would have hitched the camper to the F-truck. Countless groups towing trailers bypassed this spot on the days prior.

I have driven on the beach countless times however only towed twice.....towing takes a little more planning.

Anyway maybe thee was a simple fix for the ute, I'm guessing not though.....tough start to a trip, hopefully it got better.

Campers arriving after XMAS were a little stressed as it was very difficult to find available space......like it was pack solid after the big influx on XMAS and Boxing days.

Packed solid is an understatement.....one drive up that beach on the 28th, was enough to keep my view of never wanting to camp there over that period of the year. Can only imagine the toilet issues with holes everywhere in the sand also, so I would avoid the place for quite sometime myself

It was like that on June long weekend as well. Definitely an off peak season visit unless you are into crowds and poo.

Yeah we would prefer a different time but I'm stuck the having holidays over the XMAS period and one has to make the most of them.....it's going to be crowed where ever we go.

It's our second XMAS on Teewah.......

We arrive the week prior and found good camping spots each time. Both times we attempted to find spots which limited other campers moving right on top of us. First the we camped at the northern end, no so good as every body is keen on the most northern part. This time we were just north of Red Canyon and it was better.

Re: toilets and smell, this year was the best smell wise over all the visits I have done.......it seems less people are digging holes and more using chemical toilets or driving to freshwater.. We defiantly didn't have any bad smells where we camped. In fact it's the cleanest I have seen it as well.

We didn't have rowdy neighbors this year, we didn't have any neighbors (one 20m or so to the north and the other 30m away)until our last couple of days, until than we have a good 40m each way to ourselves, being tucked away behind she small dunes and no shade either side of the shade we had kept camper away.

the only annoying but the the traffic on the beach, it gets hectic at times.

We either hang out at the lighthouse or the lagoons.....set up for the day and watch the world go by......making the most of it I guess.

The bride and I   will seek up there for a mid week trip without the kids next year as I said to her it totally different....we will have the place to ourselves.

Unfortunately I'm stuck with taking time off at XMAS.

with just a very light and cool breeze helping the little bit of perspiration evaporate quickly.

Hey weeds, yeah as u know weather went crappy, so best trick is drop my awnings which takes 10 mins and just go inside. That way I don't destroy anything. Yesterday we decided it was time to do the washing. So we went off for that.

Man wind is still blowing crazy, currently about 90kmhr but I've turned our van this avo so now giant wind block :D.

We went for a drive wow there's a lot of tents ripped, mass exodus of people though as the weather is going to stick around until at least Friday now.

I put the awning backup tonight all good

A lot less people today Scotty whom runs one of the food trucks, reckons we lost about 25% of them not going to sit weather out.. Not much I can do, simply drop awning and go inside ha ha

The only thing annoying is when it's 90k winds the satellite doesn't lock properly...

I spent a NYE up there, never again.  The crowds were terrible.

I spent NYE up there about 10 years ago, it was an eye opener that is for sure.  We got up there late and the only spot we found was on damp ground beside a water crossing.  Within an hour of setting up we had people squeezed in as close to us as they could.  I have mates that go up there each year but even they said no thanks to the wind and came home yesterday.

We were over at Elanda Point camping ground and it was less than half full, it was windy down by the lake side camps but up in the back part it was great, I'm sure glad we didn't bother going for a run on the beach the wind would have driven me nuts.
