Was driving through USA in April and literally stumbled across an airshow near Panama City just outside Tyndall AFB where they had an F35 Lightning doing all sorts of stunts.....pretty impressive !!
I didn't have a clue what sort of plane it was, had to ask someone .

Bloody Airy Fairy's were 15 minutes late to the target... Picked the rat up from school and headed for the North wall at Cudgen creek .. Roll in the low cloud base and lite showers, to be greeted with a low slow fly over of a Black hawk following the beach at about 60 feet ..
First four F18's came running up the south beach staggered out at about 2 k's out and about 150 feet up at a guess of 400+ knts.
Lead pair do a high bank turn out to sea the and a reverse high bank turn to run seaward side of Cook Island with another high bank turn around the Island, the second element of that section doing a lesser banked follow ..
Second section of four ran in pretty much the same order though with a less dramatic turn and weave to adjust course for Cook Island ..
Two tail end charlies came though as the second element rounded Cook Island and another low slow Blackhawk finalised the show with a run up the beach just out off the shore break ..

I forgot about the whole thing

After serving in the RAAF for many years, you eventually get to the stage where you wish the whole bloody lot would go away.

It was announced as 1 Sqn's final training Exercise for the year, so I'm guessing they may just be going somewhere else in the New Year? Or to put it another way, "Ready or not, here we come!" >:D
Now, where was the Photo of the Month comp about "Movement" ...?

Just imagine sitting in a F1 Ferrari but then 100 times faster when at the speed of light…
Always been my boyhood dream to fly one of those things but lady luck decided that I'm just not smart enough :-[

I know what you mean.....but I couldn't help myself !! ;D ;D But when they build something that flies that fast it'll be pretty awesome as well !!

Does anyone know if the Super Hornets do regular training runs down Fraser Island these days, like they used to do with the F1-11's?...used to love being camped on Fraser and see the planes come past so low you could see the pilots looking at you, but haven't been to the island for quite a few years now, so no idea if they still do it or not?
Below is a couple of pics i snapped on one stay on Fraser, we had 3 planes come down the beach one after the other.....

Good to hear they still do the runs down Fraser. Was it Friday you took that pic on by chance?... because they used to do Friday arvos, just after lunch for the most part i noticed over the years.
-
Hey Rumpig,
From what I can tell, they go down Fraser every now and then.
The hornet doesn't spend too much time at low level like the F111 did.
The Hornet is a far more capable aircraft than the F111. The two jets were built for different fights.
The RAAF seem to pay particular attention to noise around the local SEQ area. They always seem to advertise everything pretty well these days on social media.
-
From what I was told... the F1-11's used to do a bombing run at Tin Can Bay, then on the run home they'd do a terrain hugging exercise down the coastline, which is why they were so low. It wasn't every Friday, but when we'd camp on the beach at Fraser for 2 week periods, we noticed when they came was usually on a Friday just after lunch.
-
Just checked the pics date taken, it was on a sunday morning about 11am
-
I should have added I saw that they were going down Fraser on Monday and Tuesday this week.
-
sounds like they are more random now with the days they do it on then they used to do.
