Title: Where to go the week before Xmas
Post by: fridayman on November 17, 2015, 07:56:50 PM
Evening all. My folks are flying in (to Brisbane) from abroad for a visit over Xmas. I would like to take my son, father and brother on a boys camping trip for a few days before Xmas, leaving on Saturday the 19th of December and getting back the 24th. We don't like big crowds or caravan parks, and don't mind wild camping (we are self sufficient). I would really like my father to get a taste of Aussie camping. Any suggestions?

I was wondering about Straddie. How busy is it (or Moreton for that matter), the week before Xmas?

There'll be quite a few people there but I don't think you'll find too many quiet spots that close to xmas, we were there last xmas....... it was busy but not a pain in the arse busy !!

Or maybe this place http://wooyungbeach.com.au/ (http://wooyungbeach.com.au/)
how about Peacock creek, the dirt road from Tunumbah dam out of Kyogle can get a little rough though .. has a  Footy field size flat area,  weather shed & tank [ not drinkable ], drop toilets at one end, camp bays with fire pits [ depends on bans ] ..creek about 50 + m or so of to the side ..Generaly you would be the only ones there ..State forrest self registration honesty box .. No showers from memory..http://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/richmond-range-national-park/peacock-creek-campground/camping (http://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/richmond-range-national-park/peacock-creek-campground/camping)

trying to think of a place i know thats most like the wild
seems that most of the places i know and go are 15 minutes from an mcdonalds or woolworths.
moreton would be a good trip (you can see a lot in a short stay)
and don't mind poverty creek
a bit  further away woodgate area nice

Thanks for all the suggestions. Our trip has been cut short by a couple of days, so this has made us look at closer destinations. So I've booked the ferry to Moreton. Now I can't wait to go.
