Title: Waeco lid

Massive score this morning, big 4-0 today and scored a surprise Waeco CFX50!

Only thing is the lid rattles on the opening side. There is no firm seal on the seal all the way around.

I gave Waeco a call and they were quite good but said try the lid around the other way(which I will do for the car, but I might want to change it back), but he said that let them know, might need a new lid that they will happily send down .

Just wondering if any one else's might be the same?

Post by: time on October 30, 2015, 11:05:49 AM: This was a common problem 10 odd years ago, I believe Waeco changed the design of the lid to stop it warping. Suggest you take them up on their offer to replace your lid, and keep the new one out of direct sun!

My 12 year old CF50 did not suffer the warped lid thing and has worked well over some of Australia's roughest tracks.

Only problem is that the hinge pin has broken.

Took the fridge back to the retailer. Before I spoke to anyone I checked the lids of the display models, all CFX's, different sizes.

Some were loose, others compressed the seal upon closing. Decided to go with a replacement, but unfortunately the new fridge has the same problem.

I'm going to give Waeco another call and see where to from here.

Post by: McTavish on November 03, 2015, 11:12:58 PM: Paulo - I just went and had a quick look at my CFX50. The lid when closed does move about a touch. But I think it's still sealed due to the lip inside the lid closing onto some compressed foam type of arrangement. Doesn't rattle though...

I've got the cover and rattling wasn't my concern, it was the fact I thought it should have had a more positive seal. I rang Waeco again, not as helpful as the other day. He just suggested maybe that's how they all are now and gave me the details for the nearest service mob. I asked if the seal was glued in and he said he didn't think so, so I'll check that. If it isn't I'll have a look at packing behind it.

I'm happy with the fridge and don't want to sound too picky but I don't get too many nice brand new shiny things and would just like it to be right from the start. :D

Post by: paulo on November 25, 2015, 08:42:06 AM: I swapped the lid on mine. It has spring clips on the lid, you just have to open it 90 degrees or so and give it a little tug to pry/pop it off. I did one end at a time. Then get a very fine screwdriver to flip off the covers at the other end. they arte held on with double sided tape. Swap it all around and then clip the lid back on. It's all pretty easy in the end.

If you have the CF50 I'm not sure if the lid is able to be swapped around. The updated CFX50 is designed to be swapped so you can open either way depending on where you have your fridge placed in the car/camper as determined by which side your power source is.

Sorry mate meant to type cx50. It can definitely have the lid swapped but I've put a fair bit of force on it to try and lift it off but to no avail. I'm sure it will come off but didn't want to brake anything in the process. Might spray some wd40 on it and give it another go.

Post by: DrewXT on November 25, 2015, 09:26:09 PM: just had a look at my CFX50, and when the lid is closed, it moves up and down about 2-3 mm if I press down on it.

I'd also say that the seal doesn't do a great job, as there is condensation all the way around the outside of the little lip the seal seats on. Currently running as a freezer at -10c, but when it's in fridge mode (2 degrees) there is no condensation...
