Title: Bribie Island Ocean beach camping and fishing?
Post by: trevc on October 19, 2015, 07:52:47 PM
Hi All

There are a few posts re Bribie and am looking for some recent info.

Sam and I are heading up Ocean Beach this weekend for a bit of father/son time and having been to Bribie heaps but never camping there have a couple of questions.

1/ Camping - We're keeping it simple and swagging it - has anyone got a view on the better campsites on the beach. 2,3,9 and 10 look to be OK on the maps - we don't need any facilities except a fireplace. Any others we should consider - feel free to PM.

2/ Fishing - My sons' a very keen fisho and I'm pretty hopeless. What species should we target and what's the best bait?

3/ Lagoons - I haven't been up the beach for a couple of years, are the lagoons flowing or closed at the moment? I'm looking to hit the beach about 3 hours after HT.

Thanks in advance

Trev

Re: fishing, I'm not sure if there are pippies on the beach, if there are than go with this, the are free, fresh and whiting and dart will feed on them. If not grab a pack or two of sand worms.........I reckon this will the be best chance of your young fella catching something. I found my kids didn't care what the type or size true fish were, as long as they are catching something it keep them interested.

Cheers weeds, but having just checked the complete abomination that is the Nat Parks website it seems 62/62 sites are booked. Must be pretty popular ???

Yep marked as full. Every Saturday this month is the same - I might give them a bell tomorrow to check.
Whats the next best option - Teewah?

Straddie?
Or Teewah

Teewah's probably the cheapest.  Straddie has the ferry cost to factor in but fuel cost to get to Teewah could end up similar.

I spent last weekend at Bribie and fishing is very poor fishing due to the net fishermen pillaging the place. The lagoons aren’t flowing and I at the moment with our fantastic weather Bribie is booking out weeks in advance.

Well we went to Teewah for the weekend and even though the weather was patchy my son and I spent some quality time fishing (got onto a few whiting and dart) and camping. might get a slim chance to stop in say gidday to you at some stage, as i already arranged on that weekend to get Theo to do some work on my Cruiser.
Would consider grabbing the swag and just me staying there the night being i'm already practically there,  but the previous few weekends going fishing and a future weekend coming up as a guys only camping trip means i'm not in the good books at the moment, so i need to consider wisely how much non family time i take at the moment....lol
