First impressions, this certainly isn't like any other cordless chainsaw that I've seen, it's big, it's heavy and looks very solid. The battery is massive :o .
It had 3 manuals in the box, 1 for the saw , 1 for the battery and 1 for the charger, mostly safety issues ( NO chinglish ) for the darwinites
No styrene foam packing, it's all cardboard. :cup:
Compare the size of the phone (Samsung, not mini )
Just waiting for the batteries to get to full charge then I'll try it on an old redgum fence post >:D
-
What is the bar length?
-
Same batteries as the mower?
-
I'm not boasting, but my bar length is 350mm ;D

Ego brand is accurate then!!
-
For me or the saw ??? :D
-
Looking forward to your test mate.
a pic or 2 of the wood as well perhaps?
What about replacement chains? etc
-
Both batteries recharged and ready to go
Tested on an old redgum fence post in the back yard, did 5 cuts, each took around 6 seconds with out any effort and virtually no downwards pressure except for the weight of the chainsaw. :cup:
Noise, what noise, loudish whine, but not as loud as most women, >:D , you wouldn't hear it from 50 metres, national parks here I come (http://www.sherv.net/cm/emoticons/evil/chainsaw-smiley-emoticon.gif) (http://www.sherv.net/)

What about replacement chains? etc
Bar and chain is "Oregon" brand so should be freely available, if not here could get them from the US
-
and how was the battery indicator after 6 cuts on a 2ah battery?
-
what is the weight of the unit please?
About what dia was the red gum post, thx?
-
I'll try and do a video tomorrow, now that will be an interesting operation on it's own ;D ;D
-

I apologise on behalf of all who posted here, we are only trying to glean some information as we all may lay out some of our hard earned,
like Keith, to actually buy something.
Not start a thread trying to scrounge one for nothing.
I love you too ;D

That's a good video. 12 inch log cut! You can keep your petrol saws and stinky fuel. Of course the most important thing with any saw is a good, SHARP chain. Even my little 18v with an 8 inch bar can get through 6 inch ironbark with a sharp chain.
-
I think the fact it runs Oregon running gear might sway me to this one,
plus a staff discount of masters.
I will go down the 5 ah route tho.
-
plus a staff discount of masters.
Thanks Kanga, now you tell me :'( ;D ;D
-
it's only 5%, no biggy.
Every few months they have a staff sale, that when i swoop at 10%.
I notice on these chainy's no stock on hand?
-
I'll keep an eye on how this goes, as I've thought of electric chainsaw in the car so that don't need to carry fuel etc.
-
Sabre saw for national parks. 4TPI blades. Like a hot knife through butter:cheers:
-
Update ;D
Is this saw any good ? You betcha :cup: :cup:
Would I buy it again... in a second.
Ran 1 battery flat and recharged it off a 600w inverter in the car in 20 minutes :D
Cut up a heap of very dry 6" tea tree into 500mm lengths that had been cut down by rangers in a national park that has some beautiful waterfalls  along the ott.
Pruned several trees along the ott for a larger vehicle to get through and numerous smaller lots of fire wood along the way.
The chain now needs touching up a bit to get it back to really sharp 8)
Run time on a battery appears to be similar to my old "stihl" on a tank of fuel
Spare battery and charger fit under the passenger seat with room to spare. :cup:
Good Points:- no smell
no fuel to carry
no 2 stroke oil to carry
no noise ( did I mention national parks )
easy to start, just press a button
no hearing protection needed
no tools needed to change bar/chain or adjust tension
Bad Points :- relatively expensive to buy
still have to carry bar oil ( always like to have my bar well oiled)
Summary, for camping and weekend warriors I think this is a great product, for serious firewood collecting a larger conventional saw would be better, I think the 2 smaller batteries rather than 1 large battery will work better because of the fast recharge time of the smaller battery
cheers Keith
-
Nice write up Keith. Thanks it has almost convinced me to buy one.
-
Great work keith.
You have sold me.
:cup:
-
Should ask what they are worth I suppose. ....
-
great write up! -- thanks..
Now - just gota monitor Masters for their next big sale? ...("closing down" sale??) ;D
-
I'll second everything Keith has said, only thing to add is mine does not leak bar oil when left idle for a few weeks.
We only cut dry redgum, yellowbox or ironbark and try to stick to 6" to 10" round, and 16" long to suit our heater at the shed.
Everyday we go out detecting [private land] We get a load of wood.
Usually do between 20 and 24 cuts. then sharpen chain.
Only burn about 10 a night so pile is quickly building up. [2ah battery]
I have only used it a few times, mostly used by SWMBO as I just had neck surgery.
It chews through the battery if you apply heaps of pressure, let the chain cut makes a huge difference.

I got one just before Christmas and couldn't agree with the guys more.\
Well mum got one because it was cheaper to buy it and get me to do the work while I was home (I live in Canberra and she lives in our home town of Casino) then to pay someone. Anyway she sent it home with me to use then take it back next trip.
The best thing about it is being able to carry it in the car and not having the petrol smell. Which if your wife has a sensitive nose like mine it means headaches etc.
Anyway it has done all I have asked of it.
I wish I had more hands so I could give it four thumbs up.
