Thinking about getting a Waeco or similar for the back of the car and it will run off a 12v point in the back off the car battery. Just not sure how to run it when the car is stopped so as to not drain the battery? Run it off the camper battery or will that drain it too quick as well? Camper has solar.

If you dont have an auxillary battery then just set the low voltage cutout so it switches off before discharging your battery too much.

Dual battery's
It's a bad idea to run a fridge off the starting battery for obvious reasons.

Build yourself a battery box and get a cheap AGM battery to put in it!
Simple!!

We use a 50ltr Waeco with a 700cca truck / farm battery in a box strapped behind the drivers seat earthed to the body .Roughly an 8mm cable from the 100 amp alternator back to a manual battery isolator switch in the center console, then across to the battery ... Fridge is plugged into a set of fuzed leads coming from the box ..
After the trip the battery gets removed and the alternator power wire insulated and turned off.
If not driving for a day or so, we run the truck at charge revs for aprox 45minutes morning and lunch and afternoon just to boot a bit of charge into the battery . Been doing this way for the past 20 odd years with no troubles .
Though now have 180w's of portable solar to try out as a booster instead of starting the truck .

Did this approach for about $150 for the box plus charger/voltmeter. Battery was a 100 amH AGM and I ran a second 8b&s cable from the redarc isolater to keep it charged. Happy to share design if needed.
Cheers stu.

Would love to see the design if that's alright..

I ran a fridge from the camper for yrs without an aux battery in the 4wd..
I used to run a traxide dual batt isolator with a switch that I could switch it off if I wanted, but even if left on, I had the 4wd battery as well as the camper batteries all feeding the fridge in the back of the 4wd..with the normal cutoff at 12V, so the main batt was always able to start the 4wd..
If I switched it off, the fridge would run only from the camper batteries..
If I needed to unhook the 4wd and camper, I could use a short extension lead between the 2 ..

I use a battery box with 105ah agm behind the rear seat to run a 40 litre Engel.
In my case I opted to use a CTEK dc to dc charger to isolate and charge the battery which also includes solar input.
Has worked well for me now for a couple of years now.
